They discussed on College Football Live yesterday if Tennessee is a top 10 job. McElroy said no while Vilma said yes.

I don't think it's a top 10 job considering how much of a train wreck the program has been since they won it in 1998.

By that logic, Michigan and Notre Dame are not top 10 either. I'd say that UT is close, but it is right outside the top 10. I'd for sure rank the following programs ahead of them.

    Ohio State
    Alabama
    Texas
    Oklahoma
    Notre Dame
    Michigan
    Florida State
    USC
    Penn State

Then I'd jumble UT in with Nebraska, Miami, Florida, LSU and let them fight it out for #10.

Here are programs that are better jobs than Tennessee in my opinion: Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Georgia, Penn State, UCLA (yes UCLA), Oregon (yes Oregon), Clemson (right now, not all-time).

Just missing the cut: Nebraska, Wisconsin, Auburn, Washington, Virginia Tech

UCLA because of the location, recruiting base, overall athletic program, academics, get to play in the Rose Bowl as your home field.

Oregon mainly because of the Nike money and access but also Oregon has had much more success than Tennessee in the last 10-15 years. Plus Oregon has crushed Tennessee in their only two meetings. Oregon boosters don't have absurd expectations like Tennessee boosters/alumni or an obnoxious fan base. Tennessee has more history obviously but like I said Oregon has accomplished a lot more than Tennessee in recent years.

The things Tennessee has going for them is their passionate fan base, large stadium, money they're willing to pay, Peyton Manning, and the recruiting pitch "hey we play in the SEC". Other than that what has Tennessee done? They were an average program before Peyton got there, couldn't win big games with Peyton, won a title a year after Peyton but has since been pretty average at best. They aren't well represented in the NFL (Eric Berry then who) and they've been in the news for all the wrong reasons starting with the drama when they fired Fulmer. High school football in Tennessee isn't very good so there isn't a very good recruiting base. I think Lane Kiffin bailing for USC after just 1 year de-valued that program. I know they didn't have much time to search for a new coach hence why they settled for Dooley but after they canned him you didn't see any big names line up for that job which is why they settled for Butch Jones.

UCLA is a sleeping giant IMO.
