Ohio State makes first offer to in-state 2022 offensive lineman
It’s never too early to find a good fit on the offensive line, and on Saturday the Buckeyes took the first step toward securing an eventual commitment from a player who could end up being a big-time national prospect.
That is Lakota West (West Chester) offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola, a mammoth 6-foot-5, 295-pound sophomore who visited Ohio State for the Wisconsin game.
Buckeyes linebackers coach Al Washington was the one who offered the talented 2022 prospect. Tshabola told Lettermen Row he was in shock upon receiving the news.
“It’s probably the most exciting news I’ve ever received,” he said. “My phone is already blowing up. It’s life-changing.”
Despite the longtime goal of landing an offer from Ohio State, Tshabola intends to take a little time before making any sort of decision about his recruitment.
“I spoke to my family,” he said. “They don’t think it’s a good idea to commit this fast. I should wait a little.”

Tegra Tshabola excited to be back at Ohio State
The Buckeyes didn’t wait long to recognize that Lakota West (West Chester) High School offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola was the type of prospect worth building their 2022 offensive line around.

Ohio State offered the 6-foot-5, 300-pound sophomore three weeks ago, and since that time there’s been a growing buzz that Tshabola could quickly end his recruitment. The young lineman returned to Columbus for the game against Penn State and came into the weekend not expecting to commit — but not necessarily ruling it out as a possibility.

He didn’t commit, but he did find himself feeling that this trip had a different vibe to it than his previous visit to the school, when he didn’t have an offer from the Buckeyes.

“The visit was great,” Tshabola told Lettermen Row. “That atmosphere and the love for football in that stadium was like no other. It’s just the way that Ohio State plays. Very fast and physical. It really motivates me to become a better football player.”

Following the game, Tshabola was able to connect with the Buckeyes coaching staff and admits the decision not to commit was a tough one. He wants to be patient as other options appear. but he knows it’s going to take something truly special to overtake Ohio State.

“I spent a lot of time with the coaches,” he said. “Mostly [Ohio State assistant offensive line coach Kennedy] Cook and [offensive line coach] Greg Studrawa. We just talked about how things have been and about future plans. It made me feel like they really care about me and how much I could help the team in the future.

“Ohio State is my No. 1 so far. We talked about future plans and maybe about committing in the future, but as of now I’m just trying to get as many offers as possible.”

Outside of the coaches, Tshabola also spent a lot of time with Paris Johnson. The 5-star 2020 commitment has been around for a while: He played youth football with Tshabola’s brother and the sophomore is hoping to follow in Johnson’s shoes, starting with a trip next summer to learn more about the craft of playing along the offensive line from the same guy that helped teach the country’s top-ranked 2020 tackle.

“I’ve known [Johnson] since I was in the third grade,” Tshabola said. “He played on my brother’s team, the West Chester Outlaws. Next summer I’m going down to Atlanta to do my training with the same person who trained him, Willie Anderson.”

    TSHABOLA BLOWING UP
It's pat myself on the back time.

When Tegra Tshabola announced an offer from the Florida Gators last week, I said that it was the start of a monsoon of offers that the 2022 offensive tackle was going to start receiving. That was correctamundo.

Tshabola, an Ohio player from Lakota West High School in West Chester, soon followed by announcing an LSU offer, and on Tuesday he announced a USC offer.

Tshabola's recruitment isn't going to hit Troy Stellato status. Whereas Stellato saw that influx of offers in a tiny time span, Tshabola's will end up being more spread out since he's only a sophomore. But still, expect to see them continue flooding in at an impressive rate over the next several weeks.

The Buckeyes remain the favorite to land Tshabola, and they will remain the favorite no matter how many offers continue to roll in for the 6-foot-6, 300-pound sophomore. Tshabola has made it no secret that Ohio State is his dream school, and that doesn't seem like it will change no matter how many SEC or Pac 12 programs offer him.

He visited for Ohio State's win over Penn State on Nov. 23, and he was floored by the atmosphere and the face time he got with Ryan Day, offensive line coach Greg Studrawa and offensive line assistant Kennedy Cook. It was enough to help him start thinking about when he will make a college decision.

"At this point, it’s my No. 1. But my options are still open," Tshabola told Eleven Warriors following his visit. "Between all of my schools together, I’d say by the end of this school year or around my summer workout time (is when I'll make a decision). That’s probably when I’m gonna make the big announcement. I’m not for 100 percent sure where it’s gonna be, but that’s when you should expect it."

Though the Buckeyes are still the favorite, perhaps the influx of offers still encourages Tshabola to wait to see what other programs will offer down the line and if he wants to make visits to any of these schools like Florida, LSU and USC first.

TEGRA TSHABOLA, 6-FOOT-6, 300 POUNDS, OFFENSIVE TACKLE
Ohio State's first offer from the Buckeye State went to Tshabola, who started this past season at right tackle for Lakota West High School. He is a player that has the length and build to be a quality starting tackle at the collegiate level. Ohio State was the first team to offer Tshabola, giving the Buckeyes an early lead in his recruitment, especially after he visited for their win over Penn State in November.
