Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton was already impressed with four-star 2024 Arizona cornerback Miles Lockhart’s film long before he extended an offer to him last month.

But before Walton was comfortable giving him a scholarship offer, he needed to see firsthand how fast Lockhart was and how big he was in person. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect checked all the boxes for Walton when he camped with OSU on June 21, running a 4.47-second 40-yard dash and excelling in individual drills.

“It was a great experience,” Lockhart told Eleven Warriors of camping with OSU. “Just being able to be coached by coach Walton and coach Eliano. I got a taste of how they run things there. It was a great experience and a great workout.

“I asked (Walton) about the techniques that he likes. I usually used what’s called a peer-step technique and he explained to me a different technique and why he used it and why it’s more effective. I’ve started implementing that into my game now.”

After camping with OSU, Lockhart and his family went into Ryan Day’s office, where he was given an offer by OSU. Lockhart currently holds 18 Division I offers.

“It was crazy going into his office,” he said. “It was surreal. It was cool to go in and have a conversation with him in front of my family. That was a special experience for sure.”

The day before he camped, Lockhart toured OSU’s campus and the city of Columbus, both of which he called top-notch. Lockhart said he’s hoping to attend one of OSU’s games in the fall against either Notre Dame, Rutgers or Michigan. He added he hopes to have his recruitment narrowed down by the time he enters his senior season, but the Buckeyes are going to be in a strong position with Lockhart right until the end.

“It’s the top one to be completely honest,” Lockhart said of Ohio State, admitting the Buckeyes are currently his top choice. “It’s hard to compete with Ohio State, I’ve said that multiple times. There’s a brotherhood there and a winning tradition. Coach Walton was telling us how Ohio State won the Rose Bowl and went 11-2 last year and the whole city was mad they didn’t make it to the national championship. It’s like you have to win there. That winning tradition is something that I think makes the whole environment special.”

LOCKHART WILL ALSO ATTEND THE GAME
Four-star 2024 cornerback Miles Lockhart also told Eleven Warriors he has his eyes set on attending Ohio State’s contest against Michigan in late November, though it’s also possible he could visit earlier in the month.

“I should be up there for the team up north game but if not, then the Indiana game,” Lockhart said.

The Arizona product picked up an Ohio State offer after impressing Tim Walton at a recruiting camp on June 21 and called the Buckeyes his “top choice” in his recruitment in July.

“It’s the top one to be completely honest,” Lockhart said in July.

    • According to Bucknuts.com, Ohio State is “the school that stands out” for 2024 four-star athlete Miles Lockhart of Basha (AZ) among the double-digit offers he has received thus far. The Buckeyes offered the Chandler native back in June after participating in camp, and the Top 100 prospect for next years cycle looks as if he holds the program in high regard.

    LOCKHART ENJOYS TIME IN COLUMBUS
A four-star cornerback in the 2024 class with an Ohio State offer enjoyed his first trip to Columbus in several months when he attended the Michigan game last weekend. Arizona prospect Miles Lockhart was one of the numerous recruits at Ohio Stadium for Saturday’s game against the Wolverines, his second visit to OSU after getting his Buckeyes offer following a recruiting camp in June.

“The game was a great experience, even with the outcome, I really enjoyed my time there,” Lockhart told Eleven Warriors. “The fans from both teams were loud and up the whole game so you could feel that different type of energy. I got to talk with Tim Walton and he told me that they are obviously very disappointed right now, but they gotta move on and go on to the next.”

In 12 games this season for Basha High School (Chandler, Arizona), Lockhart racked up 52 total tackles (one for loss), three interceptions and 14 pass deflections. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect is considered the 293rd-best prospect nationally in 2024, per 247Sports’ composite rankings, and currently holds 19 Division I offers including eight Pac-12 schools.

MILES LOCKHART TO MAKE OFFICIAL VISIT TO OSU
One of Ohio State’s cornerback targets for the 2024 class is planning to return to Ohio State for another visit. Four-star Arizona cornerback Miles Lockhart told Eleven Warriors he plans on making one of his official visits to Ohio State, though he’s unsure of an exact date at this point.

Lockhart was offered by OSU over the summer after a recruiting camp and most recently took a game visit to Columbus on Nov. 26 for the Michigan game.

“The game was a great experience, even with the outcome, I really enjoyed my time there,” Lockhart told Eleven Warriors after his visit. “The fans from both teams were loud and up the whole game so you could feel that different type of energy. I got to talk with Tim Walton and he told me that they are obviously very disappointed right now, but they gotta move on and go on to the next.”

In 13 games for Basha High School (Chandler, Arizona) this season, Lockhart racked up 69 tackles (2.5 for loss), four interceptions and 19 pass deflections.

Four-star CB names Ohio State the ‘leader’ in his recruitment
Cornerback is obviously a huge point of emphasis for Ohio State in the 2024 class. The Buckeyes did a good job of bolstering the secondary this offseason, bringing in both safety Ja’Had Carter from Syracuse and corner Davison Igbinosun from Ole Miss via the transfer portal. They also added five defensive backs in the 2023 class, highlighted by corners Jermaine Mathews and Calvin Simpson-Hunt.

Still, the pass defense for the last few seasons has been less than stellar, to put it nicely, and so the more the merrier when it comes to adding even more defensive back talent to the roster. The Buckeyes are still looking for their first DB commit early in the 2024 class, but they may be zeroing in on a potential big addition in Arizona native Miles Lockhart.

A four-star prospect in the 2024 class, Lockhart currently stacks up as the No. 12 athlete and No. 107 player in the 247Sports rankings. The 5-foot-10 athlete projects as a DB at the next level, and expects to be a slot corner to begin his collegiate career. Lockhart first received his Ohio State offer after an impressive camp performance last June, and after putting together a strong junior campaign, it seems as though the Buckeyes are now the team to beat in his recruitment.

In an interview with Eleven Warriors, Lockhart said that he currently views Ohio State as the leader, having this to say about the program:

“Every school I go to, I just try to compare like, what they have and what they can offer. They just can compete with anybody, obviously they compete for national championships every year, they can give me the education I need. If I go on to the NFL, they’ll give me the chance to develop me. It’s just a great atmosphere to be in and a great place to be. They offer you a lot of opportunities.”

Just last week, Ohio State earned two Crystal Ball predictions to land Lockhart from a pair of trusted recruiting analysts in Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts and Mountain West recruiting analyst Blair Angulo. It doesn’t hurt the Buckeyes’ chances either that Lockhart was sporting an OSU bandana after helping to lead Basha High School to a state title this past season.

LOCKHART VISITING OHIO STATE ON APRIL 10
One of Ohio State’s priority cornerback targets in the 2024 class has set a spring visit to Columbus. Four-star Arizona cornerback Miles Lockhart announced he’d make the trek to campus on April 10.

Lockhart, who visited Ohio State for the Michigan game last year, also has an official visit scheduled to OSU for June 16-18. In an interview with Eleven Warriors in February, Lockhart gave no reservations about who’s currently leading his recruitment.

“(Ohio State is) the leader,” Lockhart said with a laugh. “Just keeping it 100. Every school I go to, I just try to compare like, what they have and what they can offer. They just can compete with anybody. They compete for national championships every year. They can give me the education I need. If I go on to the NFL, they'll give me the chance to develop myself. It's just a great atmosphere to be in and a great place to be. They offer you a lot of opportunities.”
