    MCDONALD PICKS UP OFFER

Kayden McDonald, a 6-foot-3, 325-pound four-star defensive tackle in the 2023 class, has earned an Ohio State offer from defensive line coach Larry Johnson, the OSU target announced Monday.

A Suwanee, Georgia, resident, McDonald attends North Gwinnett High School, and was a high school teammate of Ohio State freshman cornerback Jordan Hancock. McDonald is ranked the 239th-best prospect nationally and the 35th-best defensive lineman. He has 11 Division I offers to this point, a list that includes Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Tennessee. While OSU would like around four to five defensive linemen for the 2022 class (probably two defensive tackles from that group), it’s thought they’ll take at least two defensive tackles in 2023.

Kayden McDonald looked down at his phone to see an Ohio area code calling on Monday.

When the four-star, 6-foot-3, 325-pound 2023 defensive tackle answered the call, on the other line was Ohio State coach Ryan Day. Day began the conversation by telling the highly-touted Georgia resident how much the Buckeyes loved the film he’s shown in his high school career.

When the conversation concluded, Day passed the phone to defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Johnson asked to speak to McDonald’s mother. Without hesitation, Johnson told her he’d like to offer her son a scholarship to play football at Ohio State. It was an emotional moment for both of them, and a situation where McDonald felt an enormous amount of gratitude.

“It’s a blessing,” McDonald told Eleven Warriors Wednesday night. “I can’t describe the feeling. I’m still happy.”

A Suwanee, Georgia, resident, McDonald attends North Gwinnett High School, where he was teammates with Ohio State freshman cornerback Jordan Hancock. He first appeared on Johnson’s radar in March, and was encouraged to attend one of OSU’s recruiting camps during the summer, but McDonald’s schedule didn’t work out.

While he hasn’t yet visited Columbus, McDonald would like to visit a game this fall if possible. But he is well-versed in several attractions Ohio has to offer.

“I haven’t visited Ohio State yet, I’ve never even been to Ohio. I want to go to Cedar Point too,” McDonald said of the popular amusement park.

McDonald is ranked the 239th-best prospect nationally and the 35th-best defensive lineman, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He has 11 Division I offers to this point, a list that includes Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Tennessee. Football is important to the McDonald family, as Kayden’s older brother, Jayden, is a linebacker at Troy. While OSU would like around four to five defensive linemen in the 2022 class, probably including two defensive tackles, it’s thought they’ll take at least two defensive tackles in 2023.

    MCDONALD REFLECTS ON VISIT
After he was offered by the Buckeyes in September, 2023 defensive lineman target Kayden McDonald visited Ohio State for the first time last Saturday. He didn’t leave disappointed, according to 247Sports.

“It was surreal, too lit,” McDonald told 247Sports. “I really can’t even describe the vibe. The skull session, the game seeing the DL score was crazy. Best game day experience by far.”

On his visit, McDonald interacted with both Day and defensive line coach Larry Johnson. An hour before the game, McDonald hung around five-star 2022 defensive end target Omari Abor.

The Georgia resident has 13 Division I offers to this point, including Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Wisconsin.

    MCDONALD HAS SEVEN-SACK PLAYOFF GAME
Something pretty insane happened last weekend. If some defensive linemen get seven sacks in a high school season, it’s considered a great year. But Ohio State 2023 defensive tackle target Kayden McDonald had seven sacks in a single game, and a playoff game at that, in North Gwinnett’s (Suwanee, Georgia) 29-15 victory. If that high school sounds familiar, it's because that's where Ohio State freshman cornerback Jordan Hancock attended.

McDonald, a four-star defensive tackle ranked as the 225th-best player and the 34th-best defensive lineman in the 2023 class per 247Sports’ composite rankings, visited Ohio State on Oct. 30 when the Buckeyes played Penn State. He was offered by Ohio State in September.

MCDONALD INCLUDES OSU IN TOP 10
A four-star 2023 defensive tackle with an Ohio State offer has cut his list down to 10 schools. Georgia prospect Kayden McDonald released a top 10 Thursday consisting of Ohio State, Arkansas, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

McDonald will take an official visit to Florida this weekend and has a scheduled official for Michigan State next weekend. Georgia and Clemson are viewed as the likely top contenders to land McDonald when all is said and done.

MCDONALD PLANS TO VISIT OSU IN SEPTEMBER
After Ohio State missed out on defensive tackle John Walker, the need remains for the Buckeyes to add a true defensive tackle to the 2023 class. They could be pivoting to four-star Georgia defensive tackle Kayden McDonald.

McDonald, who visited Columbus last season for the Penn State game, told 247Sports he’d likely be taking an official visit to Ohio State sometime in September.

“I’m going to take Ohio State and Georgia (visits) probably in September,” McDonald told 247Sports. “I really like how different coaches around the country say coach (Larry) Johnson is a mentor. So that speaks volumes for coach Johnson the impact he has on college football. He produces defensive linemen. Coach (Ryan) Day, he’s a great coach, a players coach. He cares for his players. That’s what I really like about him.”

McDonald told 247Sports the primary schools sticking out to him in his recruitment are Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State and Texas A&M. He’s planning on committing by the end of October.

McDonald is considered the 290th-best prospect in the 2023 class and the 42nd-best defensive lineman per 247Sports’ composite rankings.
