Marcus Williamson isn’t flashy and he doesn’t do a lot of talking to draw attention to himself but make no mistake, he’s got some big-time playmaking ability and he flashed that when he had the chance to in Oregon. He played mostly at nickel Saturday but really excelled Sunday when he was inserted at the boundary corner when Shaun Wade sat out. Williamson isn’t going to wow you all the time, but he’s reliable and smart and athletic. He checked in at 5-foot-9 and 182-pounds and ran a good 4.55 in the 40-yard-dash coupled with a very good 4.01 in the pro-shuttle.

4. Marcus Williamson, Cornerback

Another corner in the class who has been committed to Ohio State since April 2015, Williamson is listed in the top-4 because he plays in the secondary. Not to continue to belabor the point but the Buckeyes need help there with the names leaving. There is a reason Coombs and Schiano went out and got players to fill the void and three enrolled early.

Williamson is a Columbus kid despite finishing his college career at IMG Academy with Pryor. The added development at a program like that will help him challenge early in his college career.

Will it be in 2017? Probably not, but if injuries come to pass at the cornerback position, Williamson will be asked to produce.

If you were creating a recipe for “overlooking” a player, the recruitment of Marcus Williamson is what it would look like.

Ohio State offered the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Williamson when he was a sophomore at Westerville South High School, just outside of Columbus. The decision to offer him that early meant that the assumption was he’d be a Buckeye, and likely in short order. An early offer from the Buckeyes inside the state of Ohio means you’re a marked man: other schools don’t really try to recruit you. Because of that, Williamson finished with only 11 (public) scholarship offers because he committed to the Buckeyes in April of 2015 and never looked back or around, even after he transferred to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. for his senior season.

Williamson has been forgotten because 5-star cornerbacks Shaun Wade and Jeffrey Okudah drew so much attention, and he’s aware of it.

“I found a place that fit me and I stuck with it,” he told Land of 10 in December. “Maybe committing so early kind of let people forget about me a bit. But that’s fine. I’m just ready to finally move onto the next chapter. All that recruiting attention was never really for me.”
