OSU IN MIX FOR VIRGINIA DT, FLORIDA DE
Virginia defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, a rising senior out of Stonewall Jackson High School, is a player we touched base with in the beginning of April due to the unusual scenario regarding his scholarship offer from the Buckeyes.

Apparently, two months prior to his announcement he had been offered by Ohio State on April 2, Williams had been offered by Larry Johnson over the phone. But due to some miscommunication, Williams was unaware that he had officially been offered.

Misunderstanding aside, the Buckeyes have done enough in their recruitment of Williams to make a strong impression on him, as they have made the final six list for Williams.

Ohio State is up against Alabama, North Carolina, LSU, South Carolina and Virginia Tech for Williams, who is ranked No. 160 overall, No. 10 at defensive tackle and No. 5 in Virginia.

Defensive line target Tyleik Williams announces commitment date
Back in April, Tunmise Adeleye surprised a lot of people by not only committing when he did, but by committing to Ohio State and defensive line coach Larry Johnson. It wasn’t that Adeleye hadn’t been fond of the Buckeyes, but there’d been little to no public discussion about him and the Big Ten champions for months leading up to his sudden announcement.

Of course, Adeleye has since decommitted — revealing that he wasn’t ready to make that decision when he did. And that forced the Buckeyes to circle the wagons on the defensive line recruiting front at a time when wagon-circlin’ isn’t coming easily. After all, no one can make worthwhile campus visits without some serious NCAA loophole bending, and the Ohio State coaching staff has for all intents and purposes put recruiting on a kind of temporary hold.

Yet on Monday night, the internet was abuzz with Buckeyes commits hinting at the next possible addition to Ohio State’s top-ranked 2021 recruiting class. Then, from Manassas (Va.) came word from defensive tackle Tyleik Williams that his college choice was set to be public on Thursday evening, and it didn’t take long for the math to be sorted out.

There was little conversation about Adeleye when he committed to Ohio State, but by comparison, it still dwarfs the conversation about Williams since he was offered by the Buckeyes back in April.

Alabama, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, LSU and South Carolina were all in the final-six schools for the 6-foot-3, 330-pound 4-star defensive tackle.

The country’s No. 10-ranked interior lineman has not visited the Buckeyes, and with months until signing day and no known timeline for visits to campus, it’ll be fun to watch the next segment of this recruiting story unfold.

    WILLIAMS COMMIT DATE
The influx of tweets hit the Twitterverse on Monday night.

First came Mike Hall's tweet that another boom was coming soon. Then, Jordan Hancock. Then, TreVeyon Henderson. Eventually, it wrapped up with Evan Pryor and Jantzen Dunn.

After some scrambling to figure out who it was that they were talking about, I was told I would be given the name on Tuesday. And then, 247Sports national analyst Steve Wiltfong placed a Crystal Ball for four-star Virginia defensive tackle Tyleik Williams to choose Ohio State, and that was followed by four more picks for the Buckeyes to land him.

So, the cat was let out of the bag, and late Monday night, Williams made an announcement of an announcement with this tweet:

So, unless something very unforeseen happens in the 25th hour, it looks like Ohio State will be landing its 19th overall commitment and second defensive tackle in the 2021 class to pair with Mike Hall.

It appears we're just playing the waiting game for a couple more days.
