OL • Josh Fryar • Beech Grove, Ind.
    • Ohio State wants another offensive lineman in the Class of 2020. Fryar has visited half-a-dozen times in the last year, but the buzz coming out of his official visit isn’t lending itself to any surge of optimism that he’ll pick the Buckeyes at this point. Indiana is the home school with a clear path to early playing time, and the vibe out of Columbus was that he was leaning toward the Hoosiers.

Ohio State still hopeful to land Josh Fryar
Though his recruitment has been under-the-radar a bit, make no mistake: Ohio State would love to add Beech Grove (Ind.) offensive lineman Josh Fryar to its 2020 recruiting class.

Listed as the country’s seventh-ranked center, Fryar is a player that the Buckeyes and a host of other schools see as a utility-type lineman capable of playing anywhere up front. That’s what makes him a priority for Ohio State and why he’s been to campus half-a-dozen times in the last year, including for an official visit to Columbus last weekend.

“My Ohio State relationships are really great,” Fryar told Lettermen Row. “Me and [offensive line coach Greg] Studrawa talk daily, and [tight ends coach Kevin] Wilson, too. Occasionally, maybe once a week, [Ryan Day] texts me and sees how I’m doing.

“Personally, I think all the coaches are recruiting me to play all five positions on the offensive line. I am comfortable playing tackle and I’m comfortable playing guard or center, so it doesn’t really matter to me.”

The Buckeyes are trying to find out what does matter to Indiana’s second-ranked prospect, and last weekend’s official visit helped. Fryar wants to get into broadcasting at the end of his playing career, and there was a focus on showing him the tools Ohio State has in place to help him accomplish that.

Though some believe that Fryar is leaning towards staying home and playing at Indiana, other sources close to his recruitment have indicated that the Buckeyes, along with Penn State, remain very much in the mix with a potential decision coming in the next few weeks.

    Again, stay tuned.

    Josh Fryar

The No. 2 Indiana prospect needs to decide whether or not he will stay home or go to a school like Ohio State or Oregon. Fryar was in town for Ohio State’s spring game and again for the barbecue last weekend, and his interest is high in Ohio State. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him pull the trigger soon, and if he does, it will be between Ohio State and Indiana, where his father is a beloved offensive tackle from the 1980s.

Josh Fryar announces his plans for decision date

It appears that Beech Grove (Ind.) 3-star offensive lineman Josh Fryar has a date set for his college decision and it could lead to some Independence Day fireworks for one school in the Big Ten.

With two days left before that announcement, Fryar’s 247Sports.com crystal ball is slanted very heavily in the Buckeyes direction (92 percent) and Ohio State was the team to most recently receive an official visit from the 6-foot-5, 300-pound line prospect.

Immediately following that official visit — which took place on June 21 — the feedback about Fryar’s interest was mixed but the tide turned quickly within days and rumors that a few key family members were each favoring different programs have dissipated and it now looks like things are in the Buckeyes favor.

We’ll see if that changes over the course of the next two days. Unless, of course, Fryar is just announcing whether or not he believes a hot dog is a sandwich.

Final call on Ohio State target Josh Fryar
Let’s start here by addressing one thing: We don’t know for sure that Josh Fryar is announcing his commitment on Thursday, but we believe that he will based on his tweet from Monday afternoon.

If in fact Fryar, the country’s eighth-ranked center prospect who is being recruited by Ohio State because of his ability to play multiple positions along the line, is committing then the Buckeyes could have a final answer on their offensive line class with more than five months until signing day in December.

Fyrar has been recruited by Ohio State for a long time, even though he’s not been really discussed until recently. He’s made a half-dozen visits to Columbus, including his official visit two weeks ago. He’s rarely said much about Ohio State or any program because he’s just not into the world of recruiting.

He did, however, talk to Lettermen Row ahead of his official visit and said he’s hearing often from Ohio State and its coaching staff.

“My Ohio State relationships are really great,” Fryar said. “Me and [offensive line coach Greg] Studrawa talk daily, and [tight ends coach Kevin] Wilson, too. Occasionally, maybe once a week, [Ryan Day] texts me and sees how I’m doing.”

Over the course of the last month or so, different sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that at various times Penn State, Indiana and Ohio State have all been in the driver’s seat for a commitment from Fryar. But the timing of this big announcement, if it’s a commitment, is certainly very good for the Buckeyes.

The plans for Fryar had been to carry his recruitment into the fall. If he’s cutting it short this early, it’s likely to end up as another win for Ryan Day.

    Final call: Buckeyes.
