    Kourt Williams Gets Open
If Mitchell Melton is the linebacker/defensive end hybrid of the class, then California's Kourt Williams is the safety/linebacker version. The Buckeyes could use the 6-foot-1, 216-pounder in a number of spots including the hybrid bullet position. Williams made officials to Oklahoma and Texas A&M already and is slated to head to Columbus on June 21st.

Having now earned an invite to The Opening Finals, we'll have to see if Williams' recruitment takes off even more. He doesn't have a decision date set but it's looking like it could come before the season starts. He hails from the powerhouse St. John Bosco program that also produced Wyatt Davis and plenty of other Division I players. Alabama extended an offer a few weeks back, but the Buckeyes are the crystal ball favorite.

Uncommitted four-star 2020 S Kourt Williams has official visits scheduled with Tennessee and Ohio State over the next week-plus.
Williams (6'0/207) just took an official visit to Penn State this past weekend. Looking to get two more in before the start of the summer dead period. Oklahoma and Texas A&M drew officials of their own earlier this spring. The Bellflower, California, native is aiming to make his pledge in late July. Rivals ranks Williams as the No. 100 overall prospect in the 2020 class.

Kourt Williams Shows Family Ohio State
The last time California linebacker Kourt Williams was in Columbus, it was March 23 for Ohio State’s Student Appreciation Day event. Then he came in for his official visit for a much more intimate event in the Buckeye Bash & Barbecue.

“I wanted my family to see what I saw on my unofficial,” Williams told Eleven Warriors on Sunday. “They really made it feel like home.”

When asked what his family thought of Ohio State, he replied, “Man, they love it.”

Two other highlights Williams noted were talking to Ryan Day more than he was able to in March and getting more familiar with the academics offered at Ohio State.

Williams had already expressed that Ohio State was a standout program to him because of their new bullet position, where he wouldn’t need to choose between playing safety or linebacker.

Williams was visiting with another California defender Saturday – newest Ohio State commit Clark Phillips. Williams said the two of them are "very close," and he appeared in photos posted to Instagram by Phillips, who just committed Friday.

Williams attends school at St. John Bosco, one of the best football programs in the state of California and where current Buckeyes Wyatt Davis went to high school. Ohio State has had a strong presence there, particularly with new secondary coach Jeff Hafley now on the staff.

The plan was never for Williams to commit immediately following an official visit. He always wanted to finish the visits and have conversations with his family about what the best option would be for his future. Ohio State still remains at the top, alongside Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Penn State.

Kourt Williams feels at home at Ohio State, enters decision mode
The Buckeyes top target at the new Bullet position is St. Johns Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 4-star prospect Kourt Williams, who also made his official visit over the weekend. The 6-foot-1, 216-pound linebacker prospect thinks that plan fits his talents very well.

“The visit was great,” Williams told Lettermen Row. “It was just the whole tradition there. The whole plan and goal they have for their program. They have a really-highly ranked recruiting class this year and I can see why. I feel like that Bullet position is the perfect position for me to utilize my skill set.

I absolutely felt comfortable there. I just felt it inside the program, how the coaches and players treated me and my family.”

Williams visited Ohio State in March. And since that trip to Columbus, the Buckeyes have been considered the favorite to land him despite official visits to Oklahoma, Penn State and Tennessee. He was hosted by Buckeyes lineman Wyatt Davis, who played at St. John Bosco. And Williams also spent a lot of time with linebacker Teradja Mitchell.

The plan for Williams now is to head home and try to sort out everything he’s seen in the last few months.

He has no specific timeline for a choice but does know that he wants to get out of California for college

“I want to get away from home,” Williams said. “I will decide before the season. As for a particular time frame, I don’t know yet.”

LB • Kourt Williams • Bellflower, Calif.
    • Similar to Simon, things went as well as they could’ve gone with top target Kourt Williams. There’s no timeline for a choice, but there’s a feeling that Ohio State has clearly separated itself as the team to beat.

    Kourt Williams

The safety-turned-linebacker has made all of his official visits and is now in his decision process, which he has said will take some time. Even though it seems like he leans Ohio State because of the team’s new bullet position, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him commit anywhere in mid-July. Lathan Ransom is in the same position and will likely make his decision around mid-July as well.
