I think that's a good move for Jordan.....

I like Sibert, and I wish he would stay, but Matta doesnt typically play a standard SG anyways....

Matta ussually prefers a PG, a Center, and 3 Wings....

Lenzelle and Thompson are longer than Sibert, therefor they got the PT because Sibert wasn't hitting his shots when out there and he was a lot shorter...

J.D. Weatherspoon and Jordan Sibert Transfers Official

Some rough news for Buckeye basketball fans this Monday night, as it has become official that guards J.D. Weatherspoon and Jordan Sibert have officially decided to transfer out of the program, in favor of a better chance at playing time down the road at new universities.

Jordan Sibert and J.D. Weatherspoon (pictured with David Lighty) were the future of the program. Now they look to the future ahead at a different program.
Bob Baptist reported last week that Sibert has planned to take his talent down the road to play for Dayton under former Ohio State assistant Archie Miller. It is unclear if that is still his intentions, but the Flyers present a prime opportunity for a three point threat like Sibert. The Cincinnati product will have to sit a year before regaining eligibility. In his two seasons at Ohio State, he averaged 2.5 points per game, while shooting less than 30 percent from the floor and averaging nearly 10 minutes a game.

A teammate of Trey Burke and Jared Sullinger at Northland High School in Columbus, J.D. Weatherspoon has been made it pretty clear even before the final four that he was not happy with his playing time. In the weeks after the Buckeyes lost to Kansas in New Orleans, the soon to be Junior let his feeling be known on his twitter account that he felt upset with his role on the team and his possible role in the future.* After being ruled academically ineligible the second half of his freshman season, it seemed that #23 was a favorite to see increased playing time to start the season. After struggles defensively early in the year, Weatherspoon saw his playing time dip to just 6 minutes a game. He averaged three points per game, but only saw the floor if the back court was in constant foul trouble.

Weatherspoon is expected to sit down with his family and discuss what is next for his playing career. One school that I wouldnâ€™t be surprised to see making a push for his talents would be Xavier, where they are currently looking for backcourt help.

Head coach Chris Mack, who falls under the Thad Matta Tree, is definitely not afraid to take in talent from other ranks and turn them into players who can contend at a high level.

Sibert is contemplating visits to Xavier and Missouri. The Musketeers were one of his final three choices along with West Virginia when he chose OSU in high school, and they have a scholarship open with the departure of junior guard Mark Lyons.

Sibert said he likely wouldn’t make a decision for another few weeks.

G Jordan Sibert confirmed Monday that he's transferring to Dayton, the Dayton Daily News and CBSSports.com reported. Since Sibert announced in April that he would leave Ohio State after playing sparingly the past two seasons, it was widely speculated that the Cincinnati native would wind up at Dayton playing for coach Archie Miller, a former Buckeyes assistant. Sibert will enroll at Dayton for the fall semester and will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2012-13 season.

Sibert will have two seasons of eligibility starting in 2013-14.

Jordan Sibert was pursued by about 10 colleges after announcing he was transferring from Ohio State, but the University of Dayton may have had an advantage over the others because it had an ally in the family.

Sibertâ€™s brother, Logan Brogden, attended UD from 2002-03 and almost made the team as a walk-on. He still has long-standing friendships with former Flyers Warren Williams, Logan White, Marques Bennett and others.

As an assistant coach for AAU powerhouse All-Ohio Red, Brogden goes to several Flyer games each year with recruits. And while Sibert saw UD Arena on his visit to the school a couple of weeks ago, Brogden was able to tell him what itâ€™s like with 12,000-plus seats filled.

â€œThe atmosphere and the fans â€” itâ€™s a basketball school. And the fans love their players,â€ Brogden said. â€œThat was definitely something I talked to Jordan about. Players like him who like to play at a faster pace and get out and do what they can do and showcase their talents, thatâ€™s a great thing to have behind you â€” a crazy fan base.â€

Sibert, a 6-foot-4 guard who starred at Cincinnati Princeton High School, has decided to enroll at UD and will have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2013-14. Heâ€™s the fourth member of the Flyersâ€™ 2012 recruiting class â€” they have two scholarships to fill â€” and said he picked UD over Xavier and Cincinnati.

â€œMy approach to this is Iâ€™m hoping I can do a lot for Dayton â€” not from a personal aspect, but I really feel like I can bring a new light to Dayton basketball,â€ Sibert said. â€œHopefully, I can bring something people havenâ€™t seen in a while, get us in the (NCAA) tournament and get us far in a tournament and build an even higher legacy in Dayton Flyer history.â€

Asked how UD coach Archie Miller reacted to his commitment, Sibert said: â€œHe was really excited. He said that was the best news he had in a long time. He was actually the coach that recruited me to Ohio State (while an assistant there). He was just ecstatic to know heâ€™d finally be able to coach me and be part of whatever legacy I have.â€

Sibert was ranked as the 37th-best recruit nationally in 2010 by Rivals.com and the seventh-best shooting guard. For the Buckeyes, he was the first guard off the bench in the first half of last season â€” scoring 11 points against Jackson State and 12 in the Big Ten opener against Northwestern while making a combined 7-of-13 three-pointers â€” but his playing time dwindled after that. He didnâ€™t see the floor in any of the NCAA tournament games during OSUâ€™s march to the Final Four.

Asked about Sibert last week, coach Thad Matta said: â€œHeâ€™s a real good player. It was an unfortunate situation, numbers-game-wise, for him. But as I told Archie, I think heâ€™d be a tremendous asset for the program.â€

Sibert was part of three AAU national title teams with All-Ohio Red, but he suffered a devastating injury in the spring before his senior year, breaking the tibia and fibula in his left leg. He needed five months of rehab before playing again.

â€œIt was definitely tough to come back from. It took a lot longer than I would have expected,â€ he said. â€œIâ€™m currently in the process of making sure my strength is still there, that Iâ€™m still explosive.

â€œYeah, the leg injury did do a lot to me, but it also helped me in a lot of areas, too. I was able to develop my jump shot a lot better and work on small details with my footwork. It was hurtful but also helpful.â€

Before committing to OSU, Sibert had scholarship offers from Louisville, West Virginia, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Xavier.

â€œI think theyâ€™re getting an elite level talent, honestly,â€ All-Ohio Red coach Quentin Rogers said of the Flyers. â€œI think heâ€™s going to have a great two-year career there, for sure. When he played for me, he could knock down the 3, but he was more of a slasher and driver and could run the open court real well.â€

Jordan Sibert (Orlando Magic)

While a Dayton alum, Sibert is still a former Buckeye and is taking part in his second-straight Summer League with the Orlando Magic. Sibert finished with five points and a rebound in his only game so far. Sibert averaged 13.1 points in 44 games during the 2015-16 season with the Erie Bayhawks of the D-League.
