How was your Summer AAU Season?

“It was ok, since I was able to [play much better this summer than I did in the Spring. Nursing a injury.”

What is the strength to your game?

Windy City's next big-time prospect
Sophomore Jabari Parker has already done something at Simeon HS Derrick Rose didn't
By Reggie Rankin
ESPN Recruiting

ESPNU Terrific 25 SF Jabari Parker has already done something special at Simeon High School in Chicago that former first overall NBA pick Derrick Rose didn't even do. Parker was the first to start the season on Simeon's varsity team as a freshman, and he became the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 10 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

"It felt special and I was honored and thankful that coach [Robert Smith] put me in that position," said Parker, who compares his game to Celtics SF Paul Pierce.

The No. 7-ranked player in the 2013 class is a versatile combination forward that can score inside and out with range to the arc off the catch or dribble. Parker has a great basketball IQ, matching work ethic and some impressive blood lines.

"Jabari was able to play at that level at an early age because he was mentally and physically ready to compete on that level," said his father Sonny Parker, who was the Golden State Warriors' 17th overall pick in the 1976 NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound sophomore thinks the strengths of his game are his footwork and ability to score. Jabari said he thinks he needs to improve his lateral foot speed to be a better perimeter defender, but many big-time programs are already vying for his services.

"I want a hard-working head coach that will push me," Jabari said.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and Illinois coach Bruce Weber, among others, stopped by Simeon High School on the first day of the fall recruiting period and are making Parker a recruiting priority, even though he doesn't graduate until 2013. Others on Parker's early list include Georgetown, Kansas and Washington.

"Getting to know the coaches and their staffs is key," said Sonny, who was a star at Texas A&M before playing seven years in the NBA. "I want Jabari to have a strong relationship with the head coach."

While Jabari is a great player on the court, he is also a great kid off of it. He attends Seminary every morning, maintains a 3.5 GPA and has a great relationship with his family.

"They support and encourage me, and my dad's basketball experience has been great because he knows the game and has been through everything that I am going through as a player," Jabari said. "My brother, Christian, helps me stay focused and grounded."

Jabari Parker Receives Yet Another Big Ten Scholarship Offer
By Roy & Harv Schmidt
September 16, 2010

Jabari Parker, the 6'7 class of 2013 forward from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago has been offered a scholarship courtesy of Ohio State University. Buckeyes head coach Thad Matta extended the offer to Parker tonight after watching him at an open gym at Simeon. The offer was confirmed by Jabari's father--Chicago basketball legend Sonny Parker.

At the present time Parker sports scholarship offers from five Big Ten schools--Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan State and Ohio State. Parker will now head to East Lansing, MI over the weekend to take an unofficial visit to Michigan State. It will include taking in the Spartans' football game on Saturday night vs. Notre Dame.

Contrary to another published report, Parker has NOT cut his list down to five schools. The five schools that were mentioned--Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, Washington and Georgetown--all remain at the forefront of Parker's recruitment. However, he is taking his time and weighing all possible options.

Jabari Parker, SF, Simeon
Bossi's take: When you watch the 6-foot-7 Parker, it's almost impossible to believe that he's only a sophomore. His skill, feel for the game and effort are of the charts. But it is the maturity with which he plays that is borderline astonishing. Watch him operate on the floor and he's got the glide, confidence and approach of a multi-year pro. He's never too high, never too low, just effective and productive. Formerly most effective in the low or high post, Parker has extended his game to the three-point line and improved his athleticism. Duke, Michigan State, Ohio State, Washington, Northwestern, DePaul, Kansas, Illinois and many others have made him a priority early.

Family keeps Jabari Parker grounded
Following in the footsteps of Derrick Rose, Simeon star stays humble in spotlight
Greenberg By Jon Greenberg
ESPNChicago.com

CHICAGO -- Lola Parker was stunned.

For two weeks, she had been trying to get her son Jabari Parker, a soft-spoken, 6-foot-8 basketball star-in-the-making, to talk to a coach on the phone. She couldn't understand his reticence, but he's just a kid.

This coach hails from the South Side and coaches a quaint, little private university in North Carolina. His name is Mike Krzyzewski.

So when she got them connected, on her husband's cell phone because Jabari didn't have one, she couldn't believe how quickly the conversation ended.

Jabari spoke genially and respectfully to the famed coach, she recalls, but the conversation "lasted less two minutes." And he didn't even leave his sister's bedroom to take it.

Lola was nervous and confused. Why didn't he seem more excited? Didn't they raise him to treat elders with deference and respect?

"Do you know who this man is?" she remembers asking him. "I want you to give him respect. It's like you're interviewing him."

Do you know what Jabari Parker said back to her?

"He said, 'Mom, don't get caught up in this stuff. Coach K is not Jesus. He's just another human being.'"

Lola Parker told me this. I was speechless. She was laughing. I mean, who says that?

Cont..
