Dumes’ status iffy
Devan Dumes, Indiana’s top scorer and best perimeter defender, injured an ankle in the Hoosiers’ loss at Illinois on Saturday and whether he plays against the Buckeyes on Tuesday night may not be known until just before the game.
Indiana coach Tom Crean said on the Big Ten teleconference this morning that X-rays showed no fracture but that Dumes did not practice yesterday and he does not know whether he will practice today before the team travels to Columbus.
“It’s just a matter of his comfort level and what he can do rehabilitation-wise right now and how much weight he can put on it,” Crean said.
Dumes is averaging 12.8 points per game.
Ohio State coach Thad Matta offered a scholarship last spring to Dumes, a junior-college transfer from Vincennes (Ind.) University, but Dumes committed to Indiana before visiting Ohio State. Matta then signed Jeremie Simmons, who has started every game at point guard this season.

This is a huge game for our program. We need this one to get back to .500 in conference play and not to mention we have a tough part of the schedule coming up.

Rob Oller commentary: Don't blame Matta if he can't shed a tear for IU

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
A fair fight it will not be. Not as one-sided as the Alamo, but not the equity of dueling pistols at 10 paces, either. Maybe something resembling overmatched barbarians rushing the Roman artillery while holding spiked clubs and shields.
Indiana has a chance against Ohio State, but more likely the Buckeyes will prevail in Value City Arena tonight, because, well, the Hoosiers bring the following to the table:
• One of the least-experienced teams in Big Ten history. Of players who played in conference games last season, Indiana returns just 19 points and 185 minutes of experience. The second-least experienced league team this year is Iowa with 405 points and 1,418 minutes.

Hot-Shooting Buckeyes Defeat Hoosiers...........
My thoughts:
Not much to not like........shot 8-11 from the free throw line...72.7%....that is an improvement.......13-24 from behind the arc 54.2%........
Still to many offensive rebounds surrendered.....14.........and we lost the rebound battle 33-29........
Buford with 19 points.........third consecutive game Buford being the leading scorer..........he is starting to come around......love his game.
Diebler........17 points.........when he is on, forget about it........added 5 assists.........
Mullens put up 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds...........showed some signs.........still gets pushed off the block and needs to be patient when getting the ball in the post....
Turner........13 points and 5 assists.........he needs to take more shots........consistent play.
Simmons.......12 points and 8 assists..........good game and he needs to continue to knock down the three........
Lauderdale........we need more scoring from the big fella........made his pressence known on the defensive end....
