2001-2010 Head Coach Jim Tressel

Tressel's challenge
Buckeyes coach and his boss are still thinking positive, even in the wake of three big losses on the national stage

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
If coach Jim Tressel is feeling any heat, he's not letting it show.
It would seem that Tressel should be feeling an inordinate amount of pressure to deliver an Ohio State victory Jan. 5 in the Fiesta Bowl against No. 3 Texas, especially because the Buckeyes have suffered three lopsided losses recently in the national spotlight -- in consecutive appearances in the national championship to Florida and LSU, and this season against Southern California.
The perception that Ohio State is good enough to compete in the Big Ten but not necessarily on the national stage is bothersome to some fans, enough that they overlook Tressel's positives. He is 7-1 against Michigan. The Buckeyes have won or shared four straight Big Ten titles, and they are the only Big Ten team to win a national title in the Bowl Championship Series. Tressel also is urging more and more players to graduate, and the team grade-point average is hovering at the 3.0 level.
"Do I personally feel the pressure to deliver?" Tressel said, repeating the question. "If we do (deliver), that will be wonderful (but) it won't change my life. If we don't, that will be disappointing but it won't change my life.

"It's a great challenge to coach against Jim's teams," said Texas coach Mack Brown, who is 1-1 against Ohio State. "He's had as much consistency as anybody in the country. I am amazed sometimes that I see anyone be critical of someone who has played for the last two national championship games. Sometimes it's better to be fourth than second, I think."
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith chuckled when reminded that some fans want more and felt embarrassed by the Buckeyes' recent big losses on the national stage.
"That's the kind of thinking I just can't get my mind around," Smith said. "I'm not one of those people who thinks that way.
Those last two teams we had here, they beat Michigan, they won the Big Ten title, they won great games. We beat Texas in 2006. We won 'the game of the century' over Michigan later that year. Those were big games."

Tressel says he has no interest in Browns job

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel's name came up in some media circles on Monday as being a possible candidate for head coach of the Cleveland Browns, who had just fired Romeo Crennel. Tressel said he is not interested.
In fact, he was terse in his responding text message as he otherwise is preparing his Buckeyes for their Jan.5 Fiesta Bowl vs. Texas. He had been asked whether he had any interest whatsoever in the Browns' job.
"No!!" he texted back.
He has a contract through 2012 at Ohio State that, after it was reworked this past August, will pay him about $3.5 million per year for the duration.

Good news(that he doesn't want to)
I really feel like Tress will be here for the rest of his career.

Glad to keep coach Tressel as our coach. I also think he will finish out his career in Columbus.

Big-game losses have some fans turning on Tressel
February 2, 2009
COLUMBUS (AP) — On the driver side door of a pickup truck parked in a suburban driveway is a magnetic sign that says, “Fear Tressel.”
The plastic looks as weathered and beaten as the sentiment.
Some Buckeyes fans are no longer convinced that Jim Tressel is all that fearsome. Sure, he still wins 80 percent of his games, has a 6-1 record against Michigan, still wins Big Ten titles and his teams finish in the top 10. Those accomplishments are more than enough to place him among the most famous, and highest-paid, residents of Ohio.
But in just over two seasons, stinging losses on the national stage to Florida, LSU, Southern California, Penn State and Texas — three of those in major postseason games — have left a vocal minority of fans questioning their ultra-successful coach and his game plans.
Make no mistake, though, Tressel still has the confidence of his bosses.
“All I have to say is there are 120 Division I-A schools in this country — and 119 of them would love to have my problems,” Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee said of the fallout from the Buckeyes’ recent series of high-profile losses.

I just want to pimp-slap people who bash Tressel. Granted he may drive a lot of us crazy with his play-calling, but all the other things he has done for this program and university totally make up for it. Here it comes...........
GOD BLESS JIM TRESSEL!!!

How can people be mad at Tressel? At least when he loses he loses to teams that are usually superior.
