Monday, December 15, 2008 5:37 AM
Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis last night was named winner of the 2008 Lott Trophy, given to college football's impact player of the year.
During ceremonies in Newport Beach, Calif., Laurinaitis was selected over Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo, Florida State defensive back Myron Rolle and Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry. The award emphasizes integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity in a college defender.
"This is so surprising to me, but such a tremendous honor," Laurinaitis said. "I have to thank my Lord Jesus Christ for all the amazing blessings he has sent me, and this is such a blessing. Knowing what this award stands for and knowing the reputation and character of Mr. Lott makes it very special."

Good for him, it's rare that we get such a talented LB who doesn't win any awards, he's got one now though! :-D
I think this trophy is more important though

Ohio State football: Laurinaitis is happy about his Lott in life
Tuesday, December 16, 2008 3:06 AM
By Ken Gordon
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Sunday night, in his third and final awards banquet of the season, James Laurinaitis finally heard his name called.
The Ohio State linebacker was named the winner of the Lott Trophy at a ceremony in Newport Beach, Calif. The award, named after former Southern California and NFL star Ronnie Lott, is given to a defensive player who combines integrity, maturity, performance, academics and community service.
"This is so surprising to me, but such a tremendous honor," Laurinaitis said. "I have to thank my Lord Jesus Christ for all the amazing blessings he has sent me, and this is such a blessing. Knowing what this award stands for and knowing the reputation and character of Mr. Lott makes it very special. Hearing (longtime announcer) Keith Jackson announce my name is something I will never forget. It's a credit to all my Ohio State teammates and an amazing honor. This is truly overwhelming."

OSU's Laurinaitis makes his IMPACT
COLUMBUS - When Ohio State's three-time All-American linebacker James Laurinaitis shoots through the offensive line and levels the opposing quarterback, there is an impact that results, and it's one you can feel from the sideline.
Laurinaitis, a senior captain for the Buckeyes who had 121 tackles this season, has won the Lott Trophy as college football's Defensive IMPACT player of the year. It is the only award that equally recognizes both the on-field performance of an athlete and his off-field character.
The Lott Trophy is named for Ronnie Lott, a two-time All-American at Southern California known for his fierce competitiveness and generosity. It is awarded to the individual who best displays the characteristics that defined Lott - Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity (IMPACT).

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis yesterday was named an Associated Press first team All-American for a third straight year.
Among the other players to make the AP first-team three times were San Diego State running back Marshall Faulk (1991 to 1993), Pittsburgh offensive lineman Bill Fralic (1982 to 1984) and Georgia running back Hershel Walker (1980 to 1982).
Joining Laurinaitis on the first team was OSU cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, who last week won the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. Laurinaitis picked up the third major award of his career Sunday night, winning the Ronnie Lott trophy, which goes to the top impact player.
