Everybody hates on this team but we are getting ready to be 17-4 and we've beaten the #1 ranked team in the country...

Matta is doing a lot with limited offensive talent...

Sure we could see a little more development from a few players, but 17-4 and a potential 3-seed is not shabby for a "down year"

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If Tim Miles ever needs advice, Thad Matta would be a good guy to talk to. Building a basketball program at a football school has its own obstacles and potential upside, and few have done it as well as Matta at Ohio State.

Miles, the first-year coach at Nebraska, certainly has a more difficult challenge with the Cornhuskers (11-11, 2-7 Big Ten), the team that No. 11 Ohio State (16-4, 6-2) visits Saturday at 7 p.m. At his news conference in Lincoln this week, Miles spoke at length about fighting to make sure his players don't fall into a losing mentality. And he said that in Nebraska's 70-44 loss in Columbus to open Big Ten play on Jan. 2, “we showed no fight.”

Matta had an easier and quicker road to success, beating undefeated Illinois in his first season at Ohio State and winning the Big Ten in his second. But he can relate a bit.

“I think there are similarities to it,” Matta said. “I will say, when we rolled in there last year, the fan base, the support, was off the charts. Preparing for them now compared to Jan. 2, they are making a lot of changes. Tim has been a head coach for 18 years and he's won at a high rate. I do think you can build that, but the fact is that it doesn't happen overnight.”
