Default 2013 Ohio State Football Discussion

2012 was a great year, finishing 12-0! But itís now time to start thinking about next year.

We will probably open the season ranked top 3. We will return the majority of the starters from the 2012 team. Braxton Miller will be a Heisman candidate.

Some other things to be thinking about heading into next year:

Young guys getting older and learning the system.

The return of Jordan Hall.

Will Roby and Hanking stay?

A very strong incoming Freshman class.

A schedule that sets up nice for us to coast into the National Championship game!

Having all of these guys back will be nice, too!

Very legit shot of starting 26-0 in the Urban Era...

i thought i read some where hankins was going to stay earlier this year, i hope him and roby do, roby should of won thorp this year but voters like to **** osu because we are the buckeyes, we should get a top 3 spot but you know it will be FSU, OU, and VaTech as the regular power houses hahah, im enjoying our season right now ill look towards 2013 in the spring.

however, if hyde and miller have a great off season were looking at 2 guys who could be heisman finalist IMO, im really looking forward to see how shazier develops and if grant can get on right track

I honestly think Hyde has concreted himself as the no 1 guy running the ball. With a whole offseason I think it Hall moves to a slot WR. I think Dunn maybe hard to keep on the sideline also.
As for defense we need to address the tackling issues and by taking the right angles. Fundamentals of the game that we really need to improve on. That alone will help with the big plays. I am curious what they will do with Grant. He's a guy that needs to improve his development. I think depending how our recruitment ends will determine a lot to the LB position.

We'll see Hall at the "pivot" position that we didn't really use this season...

Hyde needs the rock 18-25 times every game...

Every time he touches the ball, it's 6 yards...

I don't think Hyde will be able to average more than 15 carries per game next season. No matter how good he is; that's just not Urban's system. We will have options at the pivot position... Which will make Braxton so much more dangerous.

I think Roby and Hankins come back. Might be wishful thinking but I think a shot at a National Title and a legit chance for both to be top ten picks will be enough to convince them to come back.

If they come back, we should have a very strong defense (everyone knows how I feel about Fickell.)

I would expect the starters to be:

DE - Adolphus Washington
DT - Michael Bennett or Tommy Schutt
NT - Jonathan Hankins
LEO - Noah Spence
OLB - Ryan Shazier
MLB - Cam Williams or Curtis Grant
OLB - Joshua Perry/Jamal Marcus/David Perkins
CB - Bradley Roby
SS - C.J. Barnett
FS - Christian Bryant
CB - Doran Grant

If that defense can't hold the teams on our schedule to under a 15 ppg average and under 300 total ypg, I believe Coach Meyer will have to start looking for a new defensive staff...

Obviously I really hope Hankins and Roby come back next year for a potential big run as they would both be key contributors. I think we are better suited to be able to lose Hankins (bc of our depth) rather than Roby.

This is a big off season in terms of finding and preparing additional weapons for the offense. We must get quicker athletes that work in space so we can take some of the load off Braxton. I don't like all of the hits he has taken this season but I certainly understand that part of his game is a must in this offense.

So incoming players like Jalin Marshall, Ezekiel Elliott, and hopefully another uncommitted player or 2 come in and will be ready to play immediately.

This is such a big area for improvement because without speedy guys and down field threats we can only go so far against better defenses.

Defensively I feel good and our young depth will continue to develop this winter/spring.

Offensively is still kind of a question mark because we have some unknowns.
