Mike D'Antoni to coach Lakers
Mike D'Antoni hired as next coach of Los Angeles Lakers - ESPN Los Angeles
I definitely thought Phil Jackson was gonna come back and coach this team. Shocked actually...

Kobe says he's excited about it, but I don't think Kobe will like D'Antoni's system. Dwight and Steve Nash will do well in it though.

So... Lakers are not doing so hot.
Kobe gets his though. He's leading the league in scoring at 34 years old, while shooting the best percentage of his career. But, LA is just 1-11 when Kobe goes over 30 points.
I think that Steve Nash will make a big difference, but he won't help this stat:
The Lakers are 22nd in points allowed per game, with three of the league's best defenders in the starting line-up (Bryant, Artest, Howard).
Is it too early to say this team will never get past OKC, San Ant, Memphis or LA C in a 7 game series? Maybe even Golden State? Probably. But, If they don't dig out of this hole in a hurry, they'll be looking at OKC or San Antonio in the first round.
As it sits about 1/4 the way through, they're 2.5 games out from making the playoffs; and I expect all three teams ahead of them for the 8th spot to improve as the season moves along (Dallas, Denver, Houston, Portland).

Man that's crazy...
That's aridiculous stat...
Most people thought (coming into the aseason) that Kobe was getting a lot more help this year...
Nash will make a difference, but IMO the x-factor is Gasol..
Gasol is a top-5 big man in the NBA IMo and he will be the key to the turn around if Dantoni can figure out how to use 2 bigs with Nash...
In the past, Dantoni had sucess with surounding Nash with a lot of 3-point shooters..

Word coming out of LA is that D'Antoni doesn't like Gasol. I don't think Gasol makes it past the trade deadline in an LA jersey... But I don't know what they get in return, they've been trying to get rid of him for a little while now.
If you can trade-away Artest and Gasol for a back-up center and an athletic forward with a jump shot you're golden... But it seems like nobody really wants Gasol for some reason, and nobody wants Artest for more obvious reasons.

Who's this Artest guy that you speak of?
If the Lakers could trade those two guys to Houston (they've been trying to get Pau) for say Chandler Parsons, Patrick Patterson, and Omer Asik, I think that would realllly upgrade their depth..
I think Chandler Parsons is a future NBA star and the Lakers need a impact player out on the wing...

No, I haven't gotten to watch the Rockets at all this season, which is disappointing with their new guards. They play Boston tonight on ESPN though, and my wife will be out of the house; so I'll check 'em out.
I've considered getting the NBA League Pass; so I can watch games on the iPad without high-jacking the TV for meaningless NBA games between teams that I don't have rooting interest in... We only have one TV. I can get away with 1 or 2 Heat games a week, but my wife and daughter are not big on Golden State vs Charlotte.
