Default B1G team could play in Orange Bowl

Sources: Atlantic Coast Conference working on deal with Orange Bowl - ESPN

Quote:
The Atlantic Coast Conference and Orange Bowl are finalizing a deal that would pit the ACC champion against either Notre Dame, an SEC or Big Ten team starting after the 2014 regular season, sources told ESPN.

The ACC champion, or another team from the conference if its champion qualifies for the national semifinals, will play annually in the Orange Bowl. How the ACC's opponent will be selected from Notre Dame, the SEC or Big Ten is still being determined.

The ACC and Orange Bowl would have the opportunity to take Notre Dame, if it doesn't make the national semifinals; an SEC team not in the national semifinals or Champions Bowl; or a Big Ten team not in the semifinals or Rose Bowl.

The Orange Bowl and ACC's deal with Notre Dame/Big Ten/SEC locks up both sides of the third major bowl when the new playoff format starts in 2014. The Rose Bowl will have Big Ten and Pac-12 teams and the Champions Bowl -- still to be determined whether to be held in Arlington, Texas or New Orleans -- will have SEC and Big 12 teams. Last week, Notre Dame announced it would join the ACC as a full member for all sports except football, where the Irish will play five games annually against ACC opponents.

Notre Dame will leave the Big East as soon as it can negotiate a deal with the conference. Last week, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick discussed the Irish's pending deal with the Orange Bowl.

I would not at all be opposed to seeing B1G teams in 2 BCS games... especially against an ACC Champion... most top tier teams in the B1G would be a dangerous challenge for VT or Clemson (let's be honest... I don't see anyone else in the ACC challenging these two in the next 5 to 10 years)

I think the verdict should be held on Florida State for the time being... Fisher has them at the threshold of stepping up and being back as a big-time program... let's see if he can actually get them over the top...

When will everyone step up to ND and tell join a conference or risk not being able to participate in these bowls. It's to the point they have too much influence in the BCS and how things are decided upon for the playoffs.

I think with the introduction of the playoff in 2014 there will be even more reason for ND (at least in their eyes) to abstain from joining a conference... contrary to what ND thinks, the reality of the situation is that until ND joins a major their stock will continue to fall... I think the 11 conference commissioners know this and they're merely letting ND take all the slack in the rope they want to tie the noose around their own neck. ND won't really have a relevant shot in the playoff system without joining a BCS conference, so in the long run let ND be arrogant about it... ND is only doing the damage to itself, and no one within the BCS committee cares enough about ND to tell them they're wrong.

Obvious sarcasm... and I love it...

Bollman had success at OSU because traditionally OSU has hung to the 3 yds and a cloud of dust mantra for basically the entire time of the Woody Hayes era and on... and the "Dave" play is classic Woody style ball... pound it right at their front seven and by the mid/late third quarter the backs of their jerseys will be threadbare from getting run roughshod on for 30-40 minutes of football...

BC, however, has never really had a legacy as a power running team... why the hell they would hire Bollman is beyond me... especially after last season's offensive output...
