That's as ignorant and speculative a statement that I've ever heard you make, man. Certainly variables exist in that list... For Bono and McCartney are assholes that won't quit music, were members of the most commercially successful bands of their times, and are greedy pricks that buy up rights to a lot of other people's music and get richer selling it.

Some of the artists on that list weren't in bands that achieved great and prolonged mainstream success... like Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach and the guy from Queensryche...

Some are guys that had their time with their bands and hung it up for awhile (or permanently) and did smaller solo stuff and other sidebands as they evolved as people and musicians, like Robert Plant from Zeppelin, and the same can be said for Maynard James Keenan, who has released albums with three side projects from Tool in the last ten years because it's what he felt like doing...

They love the music and really couldn't care about making shit tons of money. Because I can guarantee you more kids today know and recognize the music of Led Zeppelin rather than the Beatles... the guys from Zeppelin didn't care about the money as much as they loved their music... hell... Ringo Starr has admitted on numerous occasions he only did it for the money... which is why you never hear of him doing anything significant after the Beatles... Harrison and Lennon loved the music, which is why they produced more quality music after the Beatles... whereas McCartney clearly sold out with how crappy a band Wings proved to be.

But to say one's standing on the list ties in a prevailing way to one's addictions and indulgences to drugs is insanely ignorant. McCartney and the Beatles did more drugs from late '65 through the mid '70s than 3/4ths of the people on that list combined... Plant and Keenan and Kiedis combined haven't consumed near the amount of drugs as Ozzy, but he's got more money than Van Halen/Hagar (Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth) and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger combined... I'd be surprised if Kroeger even knows what an 8-ball or an onion weighs... or how many shots are in a handle... he seems like too big a pussy to be even able to finish a handle, let alone a fi
And F*** NICKELBACK... they are the worst excuse for rock music in the last 50 years.

Not to mention That tool Scott Stapp from Creed only made $30 million, is a self-promoted Christian and goes on and on about it, is a square, nancy-boy, world-class tool, and not many people really like or still listen to the commercial sell-out band he was in... Yet Trey Anastasio from Phish is worth $75 mil., fronts a hippie jam band that makes the majority of it's money off of touring and t-shirts sales than other commercial means (radio, movie soundtracks, advertising, album sales royalties, etc.), he graduated with an honor double major in philosophy and musical theory/composition, has done more drugs and booze than 90% of the people on the list, and is an atheist, but doesn't posture and get preachy about it.... and is one of the most nerdy and beloved "underground" musicians of our generation... and despite all that he and his band have achieved more mainstream success than the vast majority of other bands of the era...

So no... it really has nothing to do with how much or little drugs one abuses, how long or short a period of time you use them, nor the spectrum of types of drugs you use... but a lot more to do with how popular your music is, how good a musician you are, and how much staying power the music/band has as well as a sense of responsibility and accountability within the musician.

You look at what Steven Tyler has left or Ozzy Osburne and tell me drugs didnt hinder that number?????

With Tyler and Ozzy, they both have multimillion mansions, they have expensive ass hobbies, they have pissed money away on stupid shit, and are amongst the more irresponsible people on that list... Drugs aren't the only reason let alone a major one... all the drugs they've ever done represent maybe 1/20th of the value of the cars they have in their garages... chump change.

But for someone like say Scott Weiland it would be a semi-valid point because his music (Stone Temple Pilots) has sucked after cleaning up... and hence hindered his ability to expand his fortune.

I guess I should of been more specific on who I was referring to when I made my initial comment.
