Payne Gains Penn State Offer...............Hurting for defensive backs, the Nittany Lions target one of the best in the Class of 2014. He was at the school's Advanced Skills Camp Saturday and scored the offer afterward.

Payne sets mission for Ohio State camp
June, 4, 2012
By Brad Bournival | ESPN.com

With a chest full of offers, defensive back DAndre Payne is planning to attend a one-day camp at Ohio State next week and prove to the Buckeyes that their assessment of him was dead on.

At 5-foot-9 and 169 pounds, Payne isnt a towering cover corner, but the attributes the 2014 recruit out of Washington D.C. brings are exactly what Division I coaches are seeking.

I have good technique, Payne said. I have great hips, and Im fast. A lot of people say Im kind of a small corner, but it doesnt phase me. Ill check anybody. I have heart and I play big.

Speaking of big, when Ohio State offered Payne earlier this year, it gave the defensive back a kick start to his junior year with Howard D. Woodson High in the fall.

Schools like Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, Penn State, Miami, Illinois, Georgia and Virginia Tech are among the more than 25 offers Payne has, but the Buckeyes interest ranks high.

It was a big offer, Payne said. Its a great academic school, a great coaching staff and just a great atmosphere.

I dont have a top five or top 10 or anything, but its one of those schools that Im highly interested in. Coach (Urban) Meyer has been a great coach at Utah and Florida, and I know hes going to pick Ohio State back up.

As for what Payne plans on doing in Columbus next week, thats easy. Hes there to show his four interceptions -- two for touchdowns -- werent a fluke last season.

In short, its just more of the same for an all-around athlete that excelled on special teams and at wide receiver as well last fall.

I do my thing pretty much any time Im out there, Payne said. Im pretty sure they know what I can do.

DB with offer has high interest in Canes............This DB has 29 scholarship offers, including Miami, and says "I like Miami, so they should be at the top, one of the schools I'm most interested in." So just what are the chances here? Don't miss everything this talented prospect is saying.

Junior CB Payne is still grinding.........Early season struggles can be incredibly frustrating for football players at any level. The grind of the offseason can give way to despair if things go south quickly. That's the dilemma confronting H.D. Woodson and D'Andre Payne, one of its best players, in particular.
