Exclamation 2012-2013 Men's Basketball Discussion....

'11-'12 was a good run....(31-8)

With Craft and Zelle playing dynamic D against the opposing team's Gaurds, we'll definetly be a contender to win the B1G....

The biggest questions right now for next season-----will this team include any of Sully, Deshaun, or Tony Parker???

Also, will guys like Sibert or Spoon transfer out or stay and fight for PT....

Ravenal will be the only Senoir on this team....

Right now, I would guess the starting line-up will be....

A. Craft
L. Smith Jr.
S. Thompson
D. Thomas
A. Williams

With the bench rotation being Scott, Ross, Ravenal, and ADV....

That's a pretty sold team IMO....

NEW ORLEANS -- No official word yet on whether or not Jared Sullinger has played his final basketball game for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Sullinger, a two-time All-America forward, said after OSU's 64-62 loss to Kansas in the Final Four last night that he hasn't decided if he'll return for a junior season or leave school to enter the NBA draft in June.

"I'll probably sit down with my family and coaches and talk things over," Sullinger said. "I don't have a definite decision yet. We'll see when the time is ready."

OSU coach Thad Matta isn't certain about the future plans of Sullinger, who lead the Buckeyes in scoring and rebounding this season.

"He and I haven't even talked about next year," Matta said. "We'll talk when we get back. As always, I want what's best for the kids."

Sophomore forward Deshaun Thomas, the second-leading scorer for the Buckeyes, was vague about his intentions when asked if he'll return to OSU next season.

"What ever happens for me happens," Thomas said. "If something good happens, I'll look into it and go from there."

Last year, Sullinger immediately announced after a Sweet 16 loss to Kentucky that he was returning to Ohio State even though he was considered an NBA lottery draft pick at the time because of his stellar freshman season.

The Columbus native made no such announcement last night, but didn't shy away from a question about what he'll take away from his time at OSU.

"My teammates and my coaches," he answered. "They made me a better person off the court and a better player on the court. I would tell people not to take it for granted as far as this team. They know what it takes to make it to the Final Four. Next year, if they work harder than we worked this year, they may well win the whole thing."

Sounds to me like Sully has made up his mind to go pro.....

Best of luck to him if so....

I hope the Cavs draft Sully so I can watch him almost every night; instead of a team like Sacramento....

I would like to see more of a bench presence. I know its not Matta's style, but we just don't have the legs at the end of the year.

Lesson for drivers in successful sports towns... If you don't want ppl messing w/ your car (turning over, setting fire, etc), park it in a remote area of town in the morning before the big game, and take a bus home.

I did this during the NBA finals when the Lakers brought home the championship...

Also, if you're looking for insurance money, put a "fire retardant" sign on the dash, as well a large photo of the opposing team's coach, star player, insignia on the side.

Bob Hunter commentary: Don’t write off young Buckeyes next season

By Bob Hunter
The Columbus Dispatch
Monday April 2, 2012 5:57 AM

NEW ORLEANS — An hour and a half after Ohio State’s 64-62 loss to Kansas ended, a weary colleague on press row made a weak stab at small talk. While he packed away his laptop computer, he offered an observation that to him must have seemed as obvious as the smell of stale beer on Bourbon Street on Sunday morning.

“Well, the one thing we know is that these guys won’t be in the Final Four next year.”

He spoke of the Buckeyes, and his logic seemed, well, logical. Senior William Buford will be gone, and if sophomores Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas turn pro, as many expect, then it is hard to see OSU making another run to the NCAA semifinals with the mostly inexperienced players who are left.

But what’s funny is that I remember being served the same kind of wisdom by a press-row colleague after the Buckeyes lost to Kentucky last year in the Sweet 16, and I might have even agreed with him. That team was losing senior starters David Lighty, Jon Diebler and Dallas Lauderdale, and it only seemed logical — there’s that word again — that the Buckeyes had blown their best chance to go deep into the tournament. Even if Buford, Sullinger and point guard Aaron Craft returned, it seemed clear the new team would have some weak spots the previous one didn’t.

Maybe that makes me one of the doubters Sullinger has talked about so much lately, although somebody should remind him that when the Buckeyes lost three out of five games during a stretch in February, the players weren’t exactly predicting big things for themselves, either.

Continued............

Gosh just imagine how good we'd be if Sully would stay!

Would he be eligible next year?

If so, that would be a HUGE pick up!
