The Ohio State-Michigan game sits a little over a month away, but the Buckeyes stoked the fire just a little bit when they offered Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington).
The ESPN 150 cornerback -- he’s ranked 61st in the nation and ninth at his position -- has been a Wolverines commit since March 10, but that didn’t stop Ohio State from offering.
The senior confirmed the offer via text message.
Conley, who is also being pursued by Oregon, has the speed Urban Meyer is looking for on the edge, but he is also toying with the possibility of becoming a wide receiver at the next level.
He said he doesn’t have a position preference during an interview at his American Family Insurance Under Armour jersey presentation Thursday, but his numbers are becoming hard to ignore. The do-it-all Conley -- he also returns kickoffs and punts -- currently leads the Tigers in catches (34), receiving yards (716) and touchdowns (10). He also is the team leader team with 1,145 all-purpose yards.
As a defender, he has only made nine tackles and has one interception -- returned for a touchdown -- and a fumble recovery.
Those numbers are low because the 6-foot-1, 165-pound Conley rarely has a ball thrown his way. Massillon coach Jason Hall sees Conley as a shutdown defender at the next level.
“I think he’s great at both, but I think he’s a big-time corner,” Hall said. “His height and the way he can press, that’s what Michigan and the other schools like. He can match up and he’s physical. I really see him there at the next level and the level after that.”
Conley also has offers from Northwestern and Marshall. Oregon has not offered a scholarship to Conley yet.

Looking and sounding like a recruting statement. An Urban over the bow shot warning. Urban has to walk a tight line at this time. Trying not to piss off the Ohio coach's by taking too many out of state'ers. Don't want Jaba getting to cozy with the ohio coach's. Just saying.
