OSU Crusies Past Nebraska.............The No. 11 Ohio State basketball team took care of a road test at Nebraska on Saturday night with a 63-56 win over the Cornhuskers in front of 10,644 fans in the Devaney Center. However, the Buckeyes now will face perhaps the toughest week of their Big Ten schedule with games vs. No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Indiana looming.

Men's basketball | Ohio State 63, Nebraska 56: Buckeyes let up late, but hang on for win
By Bob Baptist
The Columbus Dispatch
Sunday February 3, 2013 6:02 AM
LINCOLN, Neb. — In a season in which Ohio State has been most consistent at being inconsistent, why should last night have been any different?
Leading by 15 points with less than nine minutes to play against a Nebraska team that had won two Big Ten games, the 11th-ranked Buckeyes watched their lead get reduced to five in the final three minutes before escaping the Devaney Center with a 63-56 victory.
“We let up,” said guard Lenzelle Smith Jr., who led Ohio State (16-4, 7-2 Big Ten) with a season-high 21 points. “We were manhandling them the whole game and we got into a comfort zone and said, ‘Yeah, we won this game.’
“In the Big Ten, no game is won. As long as there’s time on the clock, there’s always a chance for a team to come back.”
Smith said the way the game played out at the end elicited a mixed message from coach Thad Matta in the locker room afterward.
“He said we didn’t play well. There are some things we’ve got to work on,” Smith said. “But we’re 7-2. We got the win. We did what we came here to do. But we’ve got to get better.”
The victory moved the Buckeyes into a tie for second place in the Big Ten halfway through the conference schedule.
Nebraska, which trailed 53-38 with less than nine minutes to play, crashed the offensive boards for second and third shots and got as close as 58-53 with 2:40 remaining. The Cornhuskers had three shots on their next possession to get closer, but none of them fell.
Smith and Aaron Craft made 5 of 6 free throws in the final minute to keep the Cornhuskers at bay.
“We could have gotten it to three late if we just tip one in,” Nebraska coach Tim Miles said. “Who knows what could have happened then?”
Craft had 14 points, six assists, six rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal to help Smith take up the slack for Big Ten scoring leader Deshaun Thomas, who scored 15 points but missed 12 of 18 shots from the field.

Smith Lifts Buckeyes to Victory at Nebraska
By Brandon Castel
The Ohio State Buckeyes raised their road record in conference play to 3-2 on Saturday with a hard-fought 63-56 win at Nebraska.
Preseason All-American Deshaun Thomas struggled against a wave of Nebraska defenders, but Lenzelle Smith Jr. delivered when his team needed it most.
The junior out of Zion, Ill. made all six of his shots and scored a season-high 21 points to help the No. 11 Buckeyes (17-4, 7-2 Big Ten) fend off a second-half surge from the Cornhuskers (11-12, 2-8) at Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Thomas finished with 15 points and five rebounds in the win, but he was just 6 of 18 from the floor and 0 of 4 from behind the arc. Nebraska was determined to send waves of defenders at Ohio State’s top – and sometimes only – offensive weapon.
Coming off a 25-point game against Wisconsin, Thomas missed his first six shots on Saturday night. The Buckeyes actually fell behind Nebraska 16-14 in the early going. This is the same Nebraska team they beat by 34 in Lincoln last year.
The Buckeyes would go up 24-19 on a three-point play by Thomas and LaQuinton Ross capped off a 13-0 run with a deep three from 23 feet as the shot clock was expiring. Ohio State held a 30-19 lead after the Ross three and the Buckeyes led 32-23 at the half, despite getting just nine points from Thomas in the first 20 minutes.
Ohio State led 53-38 on a pair of free throws by Aaron Craft with 9:05 left in the second half, but Nebraska refused to go down without a fight this time. They hit the offensive glass and cut Ohio State’s lead to just five on a free throw from David Rivers with 2:40 remaining.
