Big Ten Coaches Critical of Urban Meyer's recruiting
Dantonio and Michigan State need to realize that Meyer is not just recruiting against the Big Ten but he is recruiting to beat the SEC...........I would suggest the rest of the Big Ten coaches put this "gentlemans agreement" in the past and get with the times..........it is sort of pathetic coaches from other staffs are complaining they are getting out recruited by a coach who has been on the job for just over 2 months.........

Buckeyes-Spartans recruiting war heating up

CANTON TWP. —
If Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio are chewing some of the same recruiting real estate in Stark County at the same time, they’re probably not meeting at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Don’t expect to see the two Big Ten coaches marveling over the Jim Thorpe statue together.
If there was a friendship, Dantonio’s defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi indicated there isn’t any longer.
Meyer swiped McKinley recruit Se’Von Pittman away from the Spartans last month, a commitment that had been in East Lansing since the summer.
In recruiting, like love and war, all’s fair.
Narduzzi was the guest speaker Monday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club at Tozzi’s on 12th. Wednesday is national signing day, and the Spartans will land two from Stark County. At least Narduzzi is expecting Marlington’s Zach Higgins and McKinley’s Jermaine Edmondson to sign with Michigan State.
Pittman would have given the Spartans a third. But a gentleman’s agreement with former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel is no longer in play.
“(The agreement) has been between the coaches,” Narduzzi said. “Jim Tressel and Mark Dantonio would never call or talk to each other’s commitments. People coach Dantonio knows well don’t come in and take players away. When you do, you lose friendships over that.”
Narduzzi said he would not speak for Dantonio and declined to say if there were a friendly relationship between Meyer and Dantonio. However, he indicated, Michigan State’s coaching staff learned a lesson.
“It sets a tone and starts a recruiting rivalry,” Narduzzi said. “I guess it’s fair game. You don’t want it to be that way, but that’s how it is.”
Michigan State had four assistant coaches assigned to recruit Ohio. An indication that a recruiting rivalry is heating up? Dantonio is assigning a fifth coach to Ohio.
Narduzzi never mentioned Higgins and Edmondson. NCAA rules prohibit coaches from talking about recruits until they’re on campus, other than on signing day.

Yah I don't get this either. It's kinda of one of those situations where "If you can't beat'em, join em."
It's not illegal. It's not against the rules. It's well within the lines of the game. It's fair game untill that recruit signs that piece of paper.
If you want to be competitive and at the top of the college game, go get what you want! Everyone else does it. Why these other schools complain about this is beyond me.
Hell, its going to happen to Ohio State. Meyer won't win 100% of the recruiting battles (but it will be close).
Quit crying, man up, and go get what you want.

The rest of the conference has a choice..........
Change or get left behind...........
You recruit a kid until he tells you no by signing an LOI to another school.......

You know there were some OSU fans bashing Rich Rod when he first took the job at Michigan and started stealing PSU and Purdue recruits. He was even known as a snake-oil salesman. I'm 50/50 on the so called "gentleman's agreement" when it comes to recruits. In Dantonio and JT's case I can understand it, but I don't think Urban has much if any type of relationship with Dantonio so I have no problem with it. I'm sure if Dantonio knew how to recruit better on a national level he wouldn't be complaining.

Ummm... isn't one of the cardinal rules of recruiting out up a fence around you state border and cherry pick the best talent available out of your own backyard? Sparty's coaches can suck it... It's an Ohio kid from an Ohio powerhouse HS program, and if Ohio State just hired the best coach alive, he has every right to be curious and look around. We didn't cry foul on Hoke for poaching Kyle Kalis... we said screw you Kalis, have fun getting your teeth kicked in for the next 4 years against us. Brady the Hutt is doing his job, getting the best talent he can, none of us cried foul about Hoke getting a kid that changed his mind.
Narduzzi, take a page from Mike Gundy... You're a grown@$$ man, and this isn't the kindergarten playground. Tressel was a gentlemanly coach, and he and Dantonio had a close relationship from Dantonio's time as Tressel's DC... I get that... but he's gone, and you need to "improvise, adapt, and overcome" or you're getting left behind and becoming one more tackling dummy for us to run over in the conference schedule. Your choice, but if you fail to adapt, don't cry for mommy like we're still on the playground and you have a skinned knee. Man up or shut up!

I remember the Rodriguez stuff, but the gentlemen's agreement is a thing of the past.
Here is a quote from Coach Tressel regarding any gentlemen's agreement in '09 after losing Justin Greene to Zook.

Taking previously committed kids (excluding programs with coaching changes or future sanctions) doesn't sit particularly well with me... But in the end, I just want to win. If a kid changes his mind, whatever.

Bret Bielema just said he had some issues with Urban Meyer's recruiting and used word "illegal". Said he called Urban and worked it out.
