Recruiting Philosophy: Meyer vs Tressel
What a difference.
I (still) love coach Tressel and the success he brought us here but Meyer is a welcome change in a few areas to me. Recruiting and Swag (sorry OBJ).
The way I look at it is like this...
Meyer: Carpet bombs recruits... offers sooo many kids from across the country. Knowing he won't get most of these kids he probably does this for a couple reasons... he starts to build relationships with coaches and he advertises the program with offers and interests (visits, recruiting talk, etc). Not to mention his recruiting success is simply off the charts (best ever?).
Tressel: Very selective in handing out offers especially to OOS recruits. Encourages kids to take their time with the decision (Meyer, I think, is more aggressive)... and I don't know, he's more of a reserved type personality
As a fan it's even more fun to watch recruiting because a new interest could pop up at any moment.
What do you guys think of this... I'm sure a welcome change on this front... How do you compare the two?

Tressel is the exacto knife, Meyer is a sledge hammer

The biggest difference IMO is the unabashed vigor that Meyer has going after kids already committed elsewhere.

I liked Tressel's approach in letting the kids take their time and seeing if they really wanted to be Buckeyes. I just wish once bowl season ended he put on the full court press. You got to admit, JT brought in some damn good recruiting classes here. 2002, 2008 and 2009 especially.

Don't forget about Woody Hayes, he was a great recruiter, he was also a great Notre Dame recruiter (for guys he had the feeling were leaning towards Michigan)

I think the biggest difference between the 2 staffs is simply the previous staff may have gotten a little complacent as time went by and add that to JT's passive style of recruiting and we probably didn't do our best OOS.
Urban is a relentless recruiter and he demands the same from the whole staff.......there are no short cuts..............if you are on the staff........you better be in the WHAC early and be leaving late.......
Urban will not let just Ohio State recruit the prospect.............Urban will ensure the staff recruits the prospect........
