Hey what ever happened to JJ Hickson? I thought he was turning into something.
The Cavs applied the first law of trading to that one... while his stock was high as a great up and comer, they traded him away... and now he gets about half the playing time in Sacramento as he did in Cleveland and we got Omri Casspi (meh ) and a 2012 1st round pick... There will be some great talent in this year's draft, and it should be a reasonably high pick... but I didn't like letting go of JJ, he's a good kid and he's gonna be a player in the NBA if they give him the minutes on the court. If we hit the lotto for the #1 and Sully comes out... I'll kill Dan Gilbert if he doesn't grab him, lol.
The thing that bothers me a lot is now there's a lot of scuttlebutt about trading Varejao too... which if they do, his stock is at the highest value of his career, but I don't see us getting a 1st round pick and a player for him unless it's a garbage player. But if we can broker a deal to get another first round pick for Varejao... Meh... it's trading off the rest of the 2011-2012 season and giving up and competing for a playoff spot, but with 3 - 1st round picks in the 2012 draft, we can clean up and get some serious talent to put around Irving and really build a nice base for the next 5-10 years.
I found it a bit confusing when they traded JJ Hickson abd then picked Trustin Thompson with the 4th overall pick.
They're almost the same exact players. The Cavs must feel that Thompson has a higher upside than Hickson.
At the end of last season when Varejao and Jamison were hurt and Hickson was getting a starter's share of minutes, he was averaging almost 20/10 per game.
I guess they did trade him while his stock was high, but it was confusing at the time to me.
Casspi has turned out to be a really good role player and he's still fairly young so hopefully it works out down the road.
I don't think Sully is a #1 overall pick in this year's Draft but I do think he'll go somewhere between 3rd and 8th depending on who has the picks and which players finish strong in March (& the Euro's) but that's most likely where the Cavs will bs picking from anyways.
If we were able to take Sully with the 6th 7th overall pick, that would bs great IMO.
