MLB hints at re-alignment
During the current CBA talks there has been talk of drastic changes to the structure of the leagues.
Some of the ideas tossed out are moving Houston the AL, making each league have 15 teams and doing away with divisions and just having the top 5 teams in each league make the post-season.
Thoughts?

I don't mind the 15 teams in both leagues, instead of the 14-16 that they have now. But to do away with divisions all together and just have two leagues with 15 teams, and 5 getting playoff spots? Don't like it......
What would they do, give the top 3 overall seeds a bye, and have the bottom 2 play to advance to the final 4? That's the only way I can think of how to format it. This would help the AL East, which many years has 3 teams that should qualify for the playoffs but there is currently only 1 wild card.
Overall, I don't like the idea and I don't think it has a chance of going through because baseball is so old-school and they don't like change. Other than inter-league play, it's basically the same game that our grandfathers listened to on the radio and no technology has even been applied. Don't think it happens......

I like the idea of moving to 15 and 15, evening out the leagues. I don't know about having inter league play throughout the season, though. I don't think that's strictly necessary. I think it's a bit overdone as it is. They should have the principal series - Yankees/Mets, Cubs/White Sox, Reds/Indians - and then just leave it alone. Sorry I don't get very interested when the Reds play Tampa Bay or Kansas City
I definitely agree that you need to keep the divisions. There's a reason why the Big Ten made a move toward divisions.

I wouldn't bet on that. The Brewer's used to be in the AL.

I like inter league play because you get to play teams you normally wouldn't. Giants, Dodgers, Braves, etc coming to Jacobs Field... pretty exciting to me.
