What are they teaching on the defensive side of the ball?

This is a completely honest question, I have no connections on the inside anymore (had only one before anyways), but does anyone have anybody in the "know" know about what is going on? I know I am pretty pissy today because my Chiefs took an L in a game they should have won last night, but its still a worth while question.

Pete Werner says after the game (my paraphrasing) "we missed some gap assignments and took a couple bad angles" I am sorry but W.T.F. its F'ing week 7, are you kidding me? Our back seven is complete garbage, it said Fuller graded as a Champion, we must have low standards because I saw him take 2 god awful angles, and yes he did have 12 tackles, but WTF does that matter when the tackles are 10 yards past the LOS. Hand to god this is a completely honest question, but have we ever had a group of linebackers this bad at OSU? I mean even our season with Fickell where we were 6-7 we at least had Shazier's coming out season. I would trade our linebackers for multiple different B10 teams linebackers. Then you hear the "well, we made adjustments in the 2nd half", which I will acknowledge that is true. One major thing with that, its freaking Minnesota, followed by Indiana in which both games we "survived" by making 2nd half adjustments. If we had played Iowa/Mic/MSU/Wisky and had to make 2nd half adjustments, I would be ok with that because they are good teams, Minnesota and Indiana, come on. I am legitimately scared of playing Purdue, how sad is that to say.

We don't have the personnel to run what the coaches want to run. Press-man coverage works when you have future Top 10 picks at corner, but that's not what we have right now. We also need to quit moving the linebackers up to the LOS. They're getting engaged with linemen and leaving a huge chunk of the field wide open.

I think we really miss Combs and Fickell

If we don't try to box off Moore with some zone looks, we will never stand a chance. We can not play that cat 1 on 1 with anyone we have playing right now....It's sad when I'm more worried about losing to Purdue than I was both PSU and TCU

At this point, I have no idea what the answer is, but holy damn this defense is awful.

So you mean they are teaching them to throw their purses at their feet and hope they trip over them? ;)

The thing that just baffles me about the undeniable truth in your post is; how can all these acclaimed coaches not understand this, or change it.

^Don't read my post as naivety, I just cannot understand how so many "great coaches" cannot figure out something better to do come week 7. Its like watching the Chiefs defense, they keep throwing the same turd against the wall hoping it will stick and it wont.

    Precisely.

I mean.. it makes perfect sense. Getting em ready for the next level.. if that's the case they're playing great.

@hollis is right about the LB’s, they are playing too close to the LOS and not getting off blocks.

Werner has to most trouble disengaging from a block.

Borland is really slow and so easily fooled by fakes and play action.

Browning is absolutely lost. Looks like a true freshman every week.

Harrison is lucky that he’s a freak athlete because he makes up for his bad reads.

At this point, it’s easy to see that it’s coaching, or a lack-there-of in the Linebacker room.

I know back when Fick left I was really hoping to see Randy Shannon as the LB coach and Co-DC. Maybe if Schiano leaves then we can pull Shannon from UCF to run our defense and coach the LB’s. Highly doubt Grinch will be ready to take over by then. If not him, then I agree with @AZBuckeye and let’s go get DJ Durkin. Fuck the haters!
