I'm curious what your thoughts are on the 2011 recruiting class? How does this compare to past Matta classes? I don't follow basketball recruiting as much as I do football.
id say 3rd best class behind the Oden Conley and Craft/Sullinger/Thomas, dont think theres any great players in it, but its full of potential 3-4 year players who could still have very good careers Thompson is he puts on weight and becomes more consistant from 3 he could be a Quicker/Faster Evan Turner. LaQuinton Ross was named a top 10 3 Point shooter in the Class, Scott was named a top 10 Passer in the class. Williams is very raw on Offense but compares to JaJuan Johnson
I would have to agree that this class is behind the "Thad Five" and Sully's class but I do have to say that Thompson, at least when watching game film..........seems to have a very high ceiling..............I think he has a chance to be a very good player at tOSU.....................Ross is another kid who has a ton of potential with his size and shooting ability......... The kid who I think has a chance to be an NBA player is Scott..............he will be at tOSU for 3-4 years and he has the pedigree to have a great career...............
Im really excited about the big four coming in of Thompson, Williams, Ross, and Scott....All have NBA potential but like you guys said none of them are really one and done material which I think is going to be exciting and better overall for the future of the program...All four bring something different to the team which is great but overall they are probably the most athletic class that I can recall in my short time following this stuff...Thompson and Ross specifically are just strait up freaks
I agree with what you guys have said for the most part but I've heard from a guy I know that works at OSU that Ross thinks he's a one & done player no matter what even though I don't believe that. I'm sure Deshuan Thomas thought the same thing coming in to this season so hopefully Thad Matta will massage Ross's ego with just enough playing time to keep him happy but sit him on the bench enough so he realizes that he's not ready for the league like he did with Deshaun. Overall though, I think this class I very solid. I just hope that they will have as good chemistry as the class before them did. This is a mixed group of guys, unlike last years group who mostly played together with All Ohio Red.
Ross isnt going to get more then 10 Minutes unless he learns how to play better D no matter how good of a shooter he can be (which he is still very inconsistant) if he wants to be one and done thats fine, he just wont get drafted and would never be heard from again but i doubt he'll be a O&D with limited playing time
Most kids coming out of high school need to learn to play defense and then need to want to play defense............I am sure Ross is no different...........Turner was the same way...............its a unfortunate part of what AAU brings............ Kids like Lighty are rare............that guy played defense as soon as he stepped on campus.............. If any of these incoming guys want to play defense............they will find some minutes.........
there is no such thing as a "who is the average" since the Average is every one not a certian player bottom line is ill be shocked if Ross sees more then 5-10 minutes due to his god awful defensive skills he would need to make a drastic improvement
Craft also played D the second he stepped on the floor. We should be the best defensive team in the B1G for sure with our quick guards and Matta's philosophy of the more D you play, the more minutes you play. You here that Deshaun??
You have personally watched his games? studied his play? just because it was written by scout.com doesn't mean it's true, Deshaun Thomas is a perfect example of a player who was viewed as a horrible defender going into college and developed VERY quickly.
10 minutes from Ross would be fine with me. If he is next years DeShaun Thomas, I see nothing wrong with that. Ross is not near the rebounder as Thomas but he can shoot lights out. An offensive spark off the bench might just be his role next year...Shannon Scott is a very good defender though and Sam Thompson is not too shabby. Prepare yourself for some great dunks too from Thompson. Kid is a high-riser.
Imagine a line-up of Scott-Thompson-Weatherspoon-Ross-Thomas in a blowout garbage time! Now that would be some high rising highlights! Dunks!!!!
um what? he still is one of the worst defenders in college basketball what did he develop on D again? and yes ive personally watched every single one of Ross games im the CBB expert here
I don't dought that Ross has the skill and foot work to D up, I just don't know if he really gives a damn on that side of the court. We'll see right away because he won't be out there on the court if he isn't bringing it. Deshaun did improve his defense throughout the season IMO but he's got miles to go. I could see DT putting up 15ppg & 8rpg if he continues to play more motivated. He might be our best rebounder.
