Anyone ever read the "Thrawn Trilogy" of Star Wars novels that came out in the early 1990s?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrawn_trilogy

The events in those books take place 5-7 years after the Return of the Jedi. These new movies are set something like 25 after that movie so I don't think there will be much in the way of borrowing the plots from those book for Episode VII.

if its still in the canon, Lucas took his magic wand and eliminated a ton a canon from the books and games that were part of the star wars universe

I recommend the three paperbooks of the Thrawn Trilogy if you are looking for a summer read. You can probably find use copies on Amazon for next to nothing.

I read a handful from the "The New Jedi Order" series, but not much else. They've already said they don't plan to borrow story from the already established Star Wars expanded universe for the coming movies... Which I think is best. I welcome a new story.

I'm disappointed Billy Dee Williams didn't make the cast even after publicly lobbying for a role.

I really can't wait to see the new star wars trilogy. I really hope they didn't **** it up this time.

    bingo.

It's just a verification that this series is going moving back to it's roots. More gritty western than sterile futuristic sic-fi. The stupid-looking lightsaber with the hilt-guard blades doesn't even make me mad, it's an indication that Jedi Knights might be "knights" again... instead of the "Jedi Ninjas" they morphed into.

The opening shot, with the panting black storm trooper, was maybe the best acting I've seen in this series since Return of the Jedi... joke, but no joke.

The fact that the only cameo in the trailer was the Falcon is great.
