We (the B1G) were the man for a long time and the $EC finally beat us. Now they are the man.
^^^^^Once again prove my point of ignorance. $ec is just plain stupid. They spend money and get the best coaches and best facilities. They have had one sitiuation where a kid got paid and won doesn't mean the whole system is corrupt. Just like not everyone at Ohio State trades gold pants for tattoos.
do i hate sec, yes i do, and most people do, i think to me what drives my hate most is the fact only 3-4 teams are worth a damn in the SEC LSU, Bama, Flordia, are solid and georgia, and some others are so so team, UGA will not get me to buy in until the finally get over the hump. The rest of the SEC is bland, seriously UK, Tenn, Vandy, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mizzo, SC, Miss St, A&M they have their streaks every once in awhile. So my hate would be towards the fact everyone precives this as a perfect super conferance when it is not. Uk will never play for a SEC championship, IMHO stoops was stupid for taking that job.
i understand team pride, but not so much conference pride, so you play them and they beat you. Reminds me of the MAC, a high school conference up my way, i hate when the fans from bottom feeding MAC school chant MAC when top MAC schools win titles. they act like its partially theirs, its not, you finished 4-6 who cares if you played them, you didnt beat them and you didnt win it, its not your title
off subject but if you live in ohio and dont know about the MAC your crazy
I love football to much to hate a conference, its not up on my list of things to hate in this world.
Some people can say they hate the SEC but most come off as they are jealous their own team isnt as successful
Well come on Mr NCAA informant. Tell us about all these kids that are getting paid....
Bama players getting free suits, cash for signing memorabilia while still a member of the Bama football team from a suit shop owner is Tuscaloosa. Then you have the pics that have been posted on this site a few times of players like Mark Ingram and Dre Kirkpatrick driving brand new decked out cars while still on the team at Bama.
AJ Green getting cash for his jersey. Pretty much the same thing as the Tat 5 in Columbus.
I could sit here and list several other times an $EC program got brought up on sanctions for improper benefits but we'd just be wasting time comparing who committed what type of violation and the severity.
I think we're going to see a large shift in the college football landscape over the next 5 years with all the realignment going on and probably much more to come. That being said, I think the B1G is starting to move back towards the elite echelon of NCAA Football, providing teams other than Ohio State and Michigan start making a more national approach to recruiting and show a willingness to spend the money on elite coaches. While we have teams like Iowa, Northwestern, Mich State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Nebraska which field good to better teams each year, we have Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, and Maryland and Rutgers coming in that are mid to bottom level teams almost every year. Last year was just the tip of the iceberg for what OSU can be in the next 5 to 10 years, and I think we (OSU) deserve to be and have to be considered an annual title contender, far more so under Urban than during the Tressel era.
The bigger question mark is the rest of the country... the Pac 12 and Big 12 have to step it up accordingly, the ACC is starting to fall, and despite adding ND, they have an even bigger void to fill in to remain relevant as the Big East is quickly backsliding into mediocrity with their scramble to replace all the teams that are leaving the conference.
I also agree with Wes that the SEC is going to be pretty irrelevant outside of Bama, LSU, and Florida, although A&M, South Carolina, and Georgia have the staff, players, and recruits to be in position to make the SEC a more interesting conference race. But beyond that the SEC has as many fluff teams as most of the other conferences. The SEC has fluffers in Vandy, UK, Ole Miss, Miss State, Mizzou, Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee. The Pac 12 has fluffers and middle of the pack fodder in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Arizona St, Washington, Washington St, and Cal... with Oregon St and UCLA being in position to make things interesting alongside USC, Oregon and Stanford. The Big 12 has fluffers in Kansas and Iowa State, and TCU, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas, and Baylor fighting to catch up to Oklahoma, who's been the only consistent, worthwhile team in the conference over the last 20 years. The Big East is really only Louisville, who will be much improved with Charlie Strong at the helm, and Cincinnati... oh yeah, and Boise St finally making the jump to a "major" conference. The rest of their decent teams are leaving for better conferences and being replaced with teams from mid-majors, further watering down what was already the laughing stock of the AQ conferences. And the ACC has nothing to offer up in good teams annually outside of VA Tech, Clemson, and Florida State. UNC, Miami, BC, NC State, WF, Duke and Virginia are mid level teams on their best years recently, and Maryland is coming to get stomped on in the B1G year in, year out.
Ultimately though, until someone (hopefully the '13 Buckeyes) unseats the SEC from the national title run they're on, we are going to continue to hear the sports writers and analysts tout the SEC as the best. As much as I hate the SEC, it requires an equal distaste and ambivalence towards the BCS system as a whole for the bloated external influence and bias it injects into the title debate every year.
But in all optimism, here's to The Chase being successful and both the OSU drought and SEC winning streak getting snapped in Pasadena on Jan. 6th, 2014.
It sounds like you're a bit oversensitive. We make fun of those in the south just as they make fun of people in the north. Maybe lighten up a bit? During bowl season I usually see what other message boards are saying and they all have a "Bash the Big Ten or North" thread. Many of the comments are pretty funny on those boards. Maybe just getting a sense of humor is what you need. I mean my goodness in your book we're not even allowed to make fun of the classic "SEC, SEC, SEC" chant....thats just begging to get made fun of. When Ohio State wins a bowl game in all honesty the last thing I'm thinking about is conference . I get the south got their ass kicked in the civil war and this is their civil war II, but come on.
If you cannot poke a little fun at them on a pro-buckeye message board I would maybe look in the mirror...perhaps you're more of an SEC fan and maybe you should look at a new team. Of course you're always welcome here, judging your posts you're more than welcome to make a "Worship the SEC" thread to counter this one if you so choose.
No proof on the Alabama thing, just something that media conjures up.
Aj Green got a 5 game suspension.....still never proved that the SEC paid its kids. You couldn't sit there and list other times because the closest thing you could get before the Cam Newton violation is the Alabama giving its football players books instead of making them buy them or rent them whichever the case may have been.
Why is it when someone tries to bring actually facts to a board its your being oversensitive? I love college football, I watch all conferences because its football. I don't need to like one conference over another. I root for Ohio State. I was born in Galion, Ohio and they pumped my head full of buckeye stats that it stuck with me from California to New Jersey to Louisiana. Do I feel the need to educate people on the SEC from time to time yes; because its at my doorstep. Just like I have asked questions about people who actually live in Ohio about how things are done up there.
Don't care about the civil war or the civil war 2, my point is simple we as fans look stupid picking on a conference intelligence because they keep winning national championships. Never once have I said a positive thing about the SEC except they win, so no I don't need to make a SEC boasting thread or anything of that nature. I will continue to fly my Ohio State flag knee deep in the swamps of Louisiana and I will continue to argue a point that until Ohio State beats a SEC team in the national championship game then let them talk.
There's no fun in poking at someones intelligence, where they were born or anything of that nature. Kinda hearted jabs back and forth between members of the board are fine but you guys seem to forget not everyone lives up North on this board. Some of us live down south, married down south, have kids down south.....so when all you guys do is poke at intelligence it gets a little offensive.
Don't sweat the petty things, pet the sweaty thang!
i think everyone needs to take a deep breath and calm down, believe it or not everyone has good points and bad points they have pointed out. Yes while we may "hate" the SEC we have to respect them until we beat them, like pointed out i think most of the hate is towards the smaller teams, believe it or not, who feel just by being there they rate to be worshiped as SEC greatness, does shady behavior go on at those schools..yes, but ill be the first to admit that there more than likely isnt a program in the country that isnt doing something shady, prove me wrong it happens every where from james madison to northwestern to Bama at all levels.
do we poke fun at people in the south yes, but we do not intend to hurt anyone or by any means mean to bash your wife or kids. come on leave the fighting and stupid arguing back and fourth to a team i know we all hate those lazy, overrated, ohio stealing talent, terds...ttun
Anyone listening to Cowherd right now? He is absolutely ripping the conference for being dirty.
what exacly is he saying im at work right now and cant watch it
Basically he called $EC fans the biggest hypocrites in sports. Whenever an $EC school gets in trouble they'll say everyone cheats but when it's someone else they're quick to lay judgement.
He ripped the NCAA, too.
Was he ever hard on U$C? He seems pretty weak in going after the Pac-12.
He ripped the NCAA for taking 3 years to investigate one guy at USC.
Yeah I cannot take Cowherd seriously, I classify him as a wanna-be elitist. He once said he was an "elitist"; actual elitists look at people who talk about sports for a living as losers.
Yeah he is a bit of an ass, but I still think he's funny and is informative. Plus he loves talking college football and usually praises OSU and rips TSUN. He really seems to be on the OSU bandwagon now that Urban is our coach. When he compares a team in other sports to a program in college football when it comes to doing things right, being committed and providing resources, he has been saying Ohio State instead of Alabama a lot recently.
Interesting. He seems to gravitate towards coaches with personality and with Pete Carroll gone I don't think anyone can compare to Urban.
