So let me get this straight.

    Hyde - Out
    Smith - Out
    Roby - Out
    Barnett - Out
    Schutt - Out
    Linsley - Plays one qtr
Shazier - Plays half the game

With all of that considered plus the fact that several players were cramping and we ran a very vanilla offense, 40-20 doesn’t seem very bad.

The INT by Braxton was a 14 point swing. That wont happen much, if ever again this year. Take that away and we are looking at a 47-13 game.

Oh and Mack for Buffalo, might be the best defensive player we see all year!

i will also say that some of our young talent did play pretty good. Wilson is lightning and will break some big ones this year. also, i was really impressed with bosa. he looked pretty good in the early going.

I think we're giving the front seven too much grief from this game... 2.1 yards per carry.

These guys are very green, and should only improve game-to-game.

That is a somewhat good point. People have a tendency to key on negatives and default to confirmation bias. There's going to be some missed tackles in any game. Nobody's perfect. The problem comes when they are consistent and ill timed. It's similar to when a receiver struggles with drops.

look at the 3rd down stats. our defense rarely allowed them to convert on a 3rd down and they got off the field. they only gave up 13 points with 1 returning starter in the front 7. not only that the best player on that defense was suspended and another all big ten player was out with an injury. people's expectations right now on this team are way too high!

I think many of the overly critical people you hear on the radio forget just how brutal this defense was a year ago...put on the Indiana game. You now see guys like Shazier and Bryant wrapping up vs. going for the ESPN highlight on every play now.

Yeah, I expect this game will be a big part of Mack's highlight reel come April.

And if my memory serves me correctly, that was Wisconsin game and all three of Beanie's TDs were from 20+ yards out... And two weeks later he served up a solid slab of workhouse by out gaining and out scoring the entire Ann Arbor CC's offensive output by himself.

Those turnovers are gonna be harped on heavily by Urban all season, but that stat about 7 sacks against us... totally wrong... Miller was officially sacked three times and had 4 rushes for lost yards. Still shows that the O-Line isn't always Johnny on the spot yet, but I'm certainly less worried than I was about SDSU after seeing them get their butts handed to them by a FCS squad.

Shazier could potentially break that if he comes back...

He's at 41.5 career TFLs right now...should finish this season with a total of about 27 on the season and 48 for his career...

The same numbers next year with 15 games instead of 14, and Shaz would be at 75....
