With the first ranking being released tonight, I thought why not start a thread to discuss it.

CBS has Miss ST., Auburn, FSU, and Ole Miss project in first top 4 ranking

    http://www.examiner.com/article/col...diction-for-playoffs-includes-three-sec-teams

By time actual Playoff comes around i really doubt 2 SEC teams will be in it, but they are set up nice to get a shot at 2 if not 3. think about it Miss. St Loses to Bama, who then Loses to UGA in SEC championship. I could easily see committee Giving Miss St. and UGA the nod, a lobbying for Bama depending on score.

I look at that top 4 and see a team that struggled with UK, 2 teams with ZERO impressive wins ( something we get nailed for) and a team that gets bailed out with a quality lose

Think Auburn and Ole Miss go down 1 more time.

Right now i think Miss St, FSU, ND, ...the final spot is a toss up between Oregon, Kansas State, Mich St..

Here's my top four right now:

    1. Mississippi State (seems like the most obvious choice)
    2. Florida State (former champion, still undefeated)
    3. Alabama (Alabama or Auburn here... I went with Alabama because their remaining schedule will either solidify the placement, or knock them out for me)
    4. Oregon (I cut them more slack with their loss than most other 1-loss teams because of the O-line injuries, they have the best win outside of Mississippi State's IMO)

Hypothetical, IF Miss St. falls to Bama by less than a TD, Bama goes on to win SEC do you still give Miss St. the 4th spot?

I think so. Mississippi State's schedule isn't too tough for SEC West standards. That Alabama game is in Tuscaloosa, so that would be about as good of a loss as you could have. But, Ole Miss could have three or four losses before they play, so they may not end-up with a great win. LSU and Auburn will both lose to 'Bama, so those wins won't be perceived as great wins at the end of the year.

I think it depends on what happens in the Big12. If TCU, Kansas and Baylor keep winning, and one of them wins-out; I don't see a second SEC team getting in... Assuming the Pac12 has Oregon with 1 loss, maybe one of the Arizona's with only l loss.

It's too hard to judge on the hypotheticals unless you complete the scenario for the other conferences as well. There's potential for a really great interactive website that would allow users to complete-out the schedules for the remaining contenders (top 20 teams), and get a good look at what everything looks like in the end and make a prediction.

    I think I'm with you.

You score 7 against this LSU team and are a top 4 team? LSU was allowing 22 points per game against Power 5 competition before that game. The SEC is down (by their standards) this year, but perception is still high. LSU isn't good. That was a bad loss.

I imagine they put a bigger emphasis on Ole Miss's good win than on their bad loss.

Well what blows my mind is that they lose to a team that in all honesty is barely a top-25 team at best imo and they only drop one spot (if you use the ap poll for last week)

TCU or Baylor... TCU's defense is nasty this year, and their offense isn't far behind.

I like Baylor wayyy better than Oregon.

Dude, that team is gonna do some nasty things this year in their bowl game/s.

Yes, they gave up points to Baylor, but that Baylor team has the best offense in the country, and TCU got completely f****** out of that game with two awful calls to end it.

After watching what Oklahoma did to Bama last year, and W. Virginia keep pace with the Tide despite dropping every other pass, I am very impressed with the Big 12 this year... You guys might think I'm crazy, but they've been the most impressive conference to me so far this year.

Oklahoma, TCU, and Baylor are all really good teams.

Also, I love watching the way TCU's defenders play the ball down the field... I wish our defense would get their heads around instead of staring at WR's chests and interfering with them half the time.

Personally i like KSU out of the Big 12, they win and constantly beat teams with 4-5 star recruits and big names with their JUCO and walk on. Bill Snyder is one hell of a coach

Your first post you said Auburn has "zero impressive wins." One of their wins was at KSU, but you think KSU deserves to get in before Auburn?

The reason I dont think its an impressive win is because KSU gave the game away. to me an impressive win leaves ZERO doubt you where the better team. Watching the KSU vs Auburn game I didnt see Auburn with an impressive win as mush as I saw KSU give a game away

And I'll admit, my approach has many counter arguments, you could ask what quality wins MSU may have or many other teams. Oregon is probably more deserving of that spot than Auburn, they have a win over MSU...there are so many What ifs...realistically in the end 3 SEC teams will not make it. Putting a 2 lose SEC team in over a 1 lose ND, Pac 12, Big 12, or B1G champ would raise all kinds of flags
