PRESTON CAREY When a prospect wears a full-fledged suit to a visit, you know they mean business. Thatβs exactly what happened with 2026 defensive lineman prospect Preston Carey on Saturday, as youβd be forgiven if you mistook the 6-foot-5, 285-pound prospect as an Ohio State football staffer rather than a freshman in high school. βMy dad encouraged me from the time I went on my first visit, adapt the mentality that football is going to be your job, and I want it to be my job,β Carey told Eleven Warriors. βMy goal is the NFL, but before that point itβs going to be my job in college and high school to perform. Iβm approaching visits like Iβm going on a job interview, because itβs my job to perform well.β Carey and his family arrived on campus for the first time and were blown away by their experience in Columbus. βIt was an amazing visit,β Carey said. βRight when I walked in, the vibes were amazing. There were a lot of people there and I think it was family practice day. I got to see some familiar faces. The vibes were immaculate. The thing I always do on visits is I put myself in the players' shoes and watch their practice and meetings and watch how they interact and everything. Because that could be me. Overall it was so great because the coaches were hyped when they made a big play but they also knew when to get serious and break down film. It was awesome and a place I could definitely see myself in another few years when it's time.β At the end of his visit, Carey was given an OSU offer from Ryan Day and Johnson. βIt felt amazing sitting down with coach Day and coach Johnson, two of the best, if not the best coaches in the country,β Carey said. βBeing able to learn from them from such a short time was really an honor. Ohio State is one of the best places for defensive linemen in the country, if not the best.β Carey has 15 Division I offers to this point, including Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M. In nine games for St. Anthony's (East Northport, New York) last season, Carey racked up 57 tackles (three for loss) with a sack.
