    BONSU SCHEDULES OFFICIAL VISIT
Speaking of Bonsu, he’ll be making an official visit to Ohio State one weekend before Downs, as he plans to be on campus from June 17-19.

Bonsu, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety from New Jersey, was offered by Ohio State on Dec. 2 and previously visited OSU on March 25-26. The three-star prospect has received a Crystal Ball projection to land at Ohio State by 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong.

    BONSU TO COMMIT AUG. 20
Another OSU defensive back target has set a commitment date, but it will be later this summer before any decision is made.

Fresh off an official visit to Ohio State June 17-19, four-star New Jersey safety Jayden Bonsu dropped a top five of Miami, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Alabama on Saturday. He will make his college decision on Aug. 20.

Ohio State has two safeties committed in the current cycle with Cedrick Hawkins and Malik Hartford, and would take up to four in 2023 from any combination of Caleb Downs, Joenel Aguero and Bonsu. Bonsu is very intriguing as a prospect, as he’s versatile enough with his speed and frame to where he could either play safety or linebacker in college.

“I’d do anything to help the teams that I play for,” Bonsu told Eleven Warriors in May.

Bonsu also says that he and OSU safeties coach Perry Eliano try to communicate at least once per week. With two months remaining in Bonsu’s recruitment, the Buckeyes remain in a good position to land the New Jersey product.

    BONSU MOVES UP COMMITMENT DATE
On Thursday evening, four-star 2023 New Jersey safety Jayden Bonsu teased that a big announcement was coming. What resulted was an NFT partnership that had absolutely nothing to do with his recruitment, but hey, good for him.

Friday, though, Bonsu did drop a bit of news that does directly impact his decision timeline. Bonsu originally set a commitment date for Aug. 20 but has since moved that date up to July 20.

Bonsu has narrowed down his recruitment to Miami, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Alabama. However, OSU and Miami are thought to be the biggest contender to land the New Jersey safety. OSU already has two safeties committed in the 2023 class in Cedrick Hawkins and Malik Hartford, and the Buckeyes would love to add Bonsu and potentially five-star defensive back Caleb Downs to that group before all is said and done.

Ohio State’s top remaining safety target in the 2023 cycle has a new commitment date.

Four-star New Jersey safety Jayden Bonsu will now commit at 4 p.m. Aug. 14. Bonsu, who originally set a commitment date of July 20 before postponing it, will choose from a final five of Ohio State, Miami, Alabama, Penn State and Michigan State.

Bonsu’s decision is likely going to be between the Buckeyes and Miami. If Bonsu had stuck to his original date of July 20, Miami likely would have been the choice for the 6-foot-1, 210-pound safety. A delay certainly gives Ohio State hope to get back into the race for Bonsu, who the Buckeyes have locked in even more on after five-star Caleb Downs committed to Alabama last month. But Miami will still be a strong contender for Bonsu over the next two weeks.

OSU currently has two safeties committed in the 2023 class in Cedrick Hawkins and Malik Hartford, but would like to take one more. Should Bonsu commit to OSU, that would likely conclude the Buckeyes’ safety recruiting for this cycle, though in an alternate universe where Downs committed to OSU, they would have taken both Downs and Bonsu.

Bonsu took his official visit to Columbus on June 17. Since Perry Eliano was hired as OSU’s safeties coach in January, the pair have formed a strong relationship.

“We just catch up with each other and check in on how each other’s week’s going and stuff like that,” Bonsu told Eleven Warriors in May.

Ohio State has had some notable recent misses on the defensive side of the ball in recruiting, but the Buckeyes appear to have turned the recruitment of one defensive player back in their favor.

Four-star New Jersey safety Jayden Bonsu has always been a top priority for Ohio State to land in the 2023 cycle. That became even more true when Caleb Downs committed to Alabama in July. On Thursday, four 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions were cast for Bonsu to land at Ohio State.

Bonsu recently announced a commitment date of Aug. 14, almost a month later than his original commitment date of July 20. Had Bonsu stuck with his original commitment date, he was almost certainly trending toward Miami. But OSU seems to have captured momentum back with the Garden State prospect.

Should Bonsu commit to the Buckeyes on Aug. 14, he’d be their third safety commit of the 2023 class.

“He’s big and physical, but he can still run really well,” Bonsu’s coach, Rich Hansen, told Eleven Warriors in May. “Everybody is looking for those guys that kind of have the best of both worlds in terms of length and physicality but still have those unique types of skill sets.”
