St. Louis 2021 athlete Travion Ford earns Ohio State offer

Ohio State assistant coach Brian Hartline was in St. Louis last week, checking in on signee Jameson Williams and stopping in to see 2020 4-star receiver Jordan Johnson.

Hartline also stopped at Lutheran of St. Charles County School in nearby Saint Peters and offered 2021 defensive end Travion Ford.

Ford is currently unranked, but the 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete had a monster sophomore season that is likely to turn him into a hot commodity on the recruiting trail in the very near future.

“My hard work is paying off and people are taking my recruiting seriously,” Ford told Lettermen Row. “I have nine offers now, and my other offers are from Alabama, LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

“This past year I had 17 sacks and 82 tackles. I was named first-team all-conference at defensive end and Defensive Player of the Year in the Missouri Conference. I broke two school records, too, for most sacks in a game and in a season.”

Ohio State was clearly impressed by the tape, and Ford is very interested in the program at this early stage and plans to visit in the next few months.

“I love that Ohio State is one of the top football programs in the nation and close to home,” Ford said. “Ezekiel Elliott came from the ‘Lou out of John Burroughs. I’m looking forward to getting there in the spring to find out more about their program.

“Coach Hartline was really cool and I’m excited to meet Ryan Day and [defensive line] Coach [Larry] Johnson on my visit in the spring.”

Travion Ford Looks Ahead to OSU Visit

When 2021 Missouri defensive end Travion Ford received his Ohio State offer in mid-January, he said it was one that he "was waiting on." The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defensive end received his 15th offer Saturday from Arkansas during a visit, and he plans to visit Ohio State on March 23.

"I’m expecting for my March visit to be great," Ford said. "I’ll have the opportunity to meet and sit down with all the coaches as well as tour the school."

Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline made the trip out to the St. Louis area to visit eventual Ohio State signee Jameson Williams when he stopped to see Ford and eventually extended him an offer.

Ford used to play at Lutheran of Charles County with 2020 defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio, who also has an Ohio State offer. Now, Ford plays at Lutheran North, where he broke the single-game and school records for sacks with five in one game and 17 during the 2018 season.

Ford said he's developed a good relationship with Hartline but is also eager to meet the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff too, which he hopes to do during his visit later this month. His March 23 visit will be the same weekend as at least five other Ohio State targets.

He said that he's looking for a program that will "push him to the next level,' and one of the immediate attraction to Ohio State is its success in the College Football Playoff and its several players drafted into the NFL every year.

"Time will tell me the program that will make me better and push me to the next level," Ford said. "A goal of mine is to start as a true freshman."

Ford works with a defensive line trainer, and he said his trainer told him to work on his stance at the line to become more explosive off the line before he graduates high school.

Until he graduates, though, Ford has two more years to continue to add to his 17 sacks and add to an offer list that already includes Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU and others.

"It says that my hard work in the offseason is paying off," Ford said. "I was hungry, and it made me to get the job done. I’m not done yet. My work isn’t finish. I’m not there yet. I still have work to do."

Travion Ford Meets Ohio State's Defensive Staff
When Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline made his way to Missouri to visit eventual 2019 wide receiver signee Jameson Williams, he also met 2021 defensive end Travion Ford. The two developed a relationship, and in January, Ford was extended an offer.

Before Ford made his way to Columbus on Saturday for Student Appreciation Day, he told Eleven Warriors what he was most excited for was to meet the rest of the coaching staff, those he would actually be working with if he were to choose to play at Ohio State.

The coaching staff met his expectations.

“The visit was awesome,” Ford said. “I got a chance to see Coach (Larry) Johnson at practice with the D-line and meet with him afterwards. I also met Coach Day in his office and with Coach (Greg) Mattison.”

Ford, at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, is expected to be one of the top defensive ends in the 2021 class. He set a new school record at Lutheran North High School for sacks in a season, with 17, and he already has offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and others.

“The visit confirmed why Ohio State is a great school and has one of the top football programs,” Ford said.
