Tight end Sam Hart has Ohio State on top of his list
The Buckeyes are the current team to beat for Cherokee Trail (Aurora, Colo.) High School 2021 tight end Sam Hart, a 4-star prospect who visited when they played Penn State two weekends ago.

“I think as of right now they are my top school,” Hart told Lettermen Row. “They fit everything that I am looking for from academics, great football, connection with the coaches — and they have a great history.”

Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford has been the primary recruiter for Hart, like most kids in Colorado. And recently the contact has increased with tight ends coach Kevin Wilson. That duo led the conversation during the 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight ends most recent trip to Columbus, his second visit overall.

“We have a good relationship, ” Hart said. “Coach Alford and Coach Wilson are always texting me and keeping up with me. It is probably the best relationship that I have out of all the coaches that have been recruiting me. They text me and keep up with me every day, and they told me I am their No. 1 guy and really want me.

“They tell me how I will be a perfect fit for their offense and I feel comfortable with and built a good relationship with them.”

Hart has a tentative plan in place for a decision but it’s not anytime real soon. Probably.

“I will for sure make a commitment this spring or earlier,” Hart said. “I’m not 100-percent sure on how many official visits I will use, but it will depend on when I commit. Notre Dame, USC, Washington and LSU are some of my other top schools.”

Sam Hart wins state title, plans Buckeyes trip
As a sophomore, Buckeyes commit Sam Hart came just short of winning a state wrestling championship at Cherokee Trails in Auroro (Colo.) at 220 pounds.

On Saturday, he took the mat again with a chance to atone for last year’s loss and did so with a perfect record on the line and with the hopes of becoming the first-ever state champion from his high school.

Hart didn’t miss this time around.

The Buckeyes tight end commitment has credited his wrestling background for his football success and there’s no doubt that one of the reasons the 6-foot-5, 220-pound athlete caught the attention of the people at Ohio State. The country’s No. 17-ranked tight end has been described to Lettermen Row as a “poor man’s Jeremy Ruckert” because of his athleticism but he’s not been as visible in the national recruiting spotlight as he’s focused on wrestling and football, not recruiting camps and things that generally draw that sort of attention.

Hart will have a state title to defend next winter but now it’s time to focus again on football and that means getting himself back to Columbus and with his future teammates and coaches at Ohio State.

“I’ll be at the spring game for sure,” Hart said of his next visit to Ohio. “Then I’m still deciding when I want to take my official. I’ll be back for a game next season too but hopefully for a trip in the summer, too.”

Ohio State tight ends coach Kevin Wilson visited Hart at Cherokee Trails in January.

“He watched me work out in the morning then came to a wrestling practice later that day,” Hart said of the visit. “It was great to see him again, it wasn’t too different being a commit as it was before. He just talked about how great I look and said he can’t wait to work with me. There is still a ton of love from Ohio State.”

Hart says some schools have continued to try and recruit him but there’s no interest on his part,

“I haven’t really been responding,” he said of other schools trying to talk to him. “So it’s as much of that as it is them backing off.
