That is an understatement. We need some dogs up-front in the 2019 class.

I am not optimistic considering our current oline coach allowed so many quality kids in our backyard to sign elsewhere. You telling me he is going to get a signature from a kid in Hawaii?

This would be huge! I'd love to get this kid! For a number of reasons. Most importantly, we need OLinemen. And, getting in on some Polynesian kids is something I've always wanted Ohio State to do.

Enokk Vimahi delays decision, expected to visit Ohio State
There is another offensive lineman to pay attention to as Ohio State tries to land another player at its most pressing position of need heading into 2019.

His name is Enokk Vimahi, and he’s a 4-star guard from Kahuku (Hawaii) High School. He was offered by the Buckeyes just about two weeks ago.

Originally slated to make his college announcement this weekend at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Vimahi has had a change of plans. He will now wait to make a college decision until Feb. 6, which opens the door for the Buckeyes.

That gives Ohio State time to show the country’s eighth-ranked guard exactly what it is all about and to impress upon Hawaii’s second-ranked prospect just how vital it is for the program to land more offensive linemen in the Class of 2019.

The first chance to do that should be over the weekend of Jan. 26, when Vimahi is expected to make an official visit to Ohio State. To this point, he’s made official trips to Notre Dame, USC and Oklahoma — but the visit to Columbus may be his final official visit.

Ohio State has signed two offensive linemen in the Class of 2019. And it will host two others, long-time commitment Doug Nester and Indianapolis’ Dawand Jones, on the weekend of Jan. 26.

As it stands, the Buckeyes have a real opportunity to put themselves right in the middle of things for Vimahi as signing day draws close.

Enokk Vimahi heading to Ohio State official visit

Ohio State will have one official visitor this weekend as the Buckeyes prepare for the final two-week sprint to signing day.

Kahuku (Hawaii) High School 4-star offensive lineman Enokk Vimahi is heading to Columbus — and could be the final official visitor for the Buckeyes in the Class of 2019.

Ohio State’s search for more offensive linemen has taken it to the western reaches of the country, and this weekend will be a major opportunity to try to steal the nation’s seventh-ranked offensive guard away from West Coast-favorite USC and Oklahoma, which has been surging in recent weeks.

The Buckeyes will hope that a glaring need for offensive linemen and the fact that Ryan Day has been personally handling Vimahi’s recruitment will be enough to offset the concerns of moving 4,500 miles away from home.

This is expected to the final visit for Vimahi as he prepares for a Feb. 6 decision.

Ohio State makes great impression on Enokk Vimahi
The Buckeyes had one official visitor to Ohio State’s campus today over the weekend and it was the country’s seventh-ranked guard, Enokk Vimahi. The Hawaiian lineman arrived in Columbus on Friday afternoon and was still in town Sunday morning.

Vimahi’s 247Sports.com crystal ball is heavily slanted toward the USC Trojans and though there’s no doubt the Trojans have been the team to beat, people who spent the weekend around the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Vimahi believe Ohio State might’ve done enough to change the direction in his recruitment.

“He seemed like he was really enjoying it,” one source shared. “His mom had all her Ohio State questions answered and told people that they really loved USC but Ohio State just ‘blew them out of the water.’ I honestly think she’s sold on Ohio State.”

Mom being sold is only one piece of the puzzle, of course. The Buckeyes are going to have to sell the offensive linemen himself on the fact that playing time is available early in Columbus and that he can be part of a program that is solid and stable, whereas USC continues to struggle and is already losing players who signed in the 2019 class. The country’s 124th-ranked 2019 prospect was hosted by Wyatt Davis — who picked Ohio State over USC.

Ironically, it was also discovered during the weekend’s visit that Vimahi is actually related to a pair of Ohio State football players: Branden Bowen and Tommy Togiai.

A decision is expected on Feb. 6 but there’s no doubt the Buckeyes would love to land a public commitment from Vimahi sooner than that.
