    Ohio State has offered.

A new offer went out to outside linebacker Pete Werner. Werner, from Cathedral High School in Indiana, checks in at 6'3, 215 pounds and has a load of athleticism. Not only is he able to fill holes, his speed is what sets him apart from other prospects. He played a lot of cornerback this past season due to his speed, but will play linebacker at the next level.

Werner currently holds 23 offers, though Notre Dame and Stanford are considered the current favorites in this recruitment. However, Ohio State's history of developing NFL linebackers could end up being a factor in this one. Couple that in with the fact that, under Meyer, the emphasis has been to get long, athletic linebackers on the field and there's little doubt that the Buckeyes could end up making themselves a contender in this process. Werner is a current four-star prospect and the number two rated player in the state of Indiana.

    WERNER PLANS OHIO STATE VISIT

Ohio State's 2017 recruiting class has a few potential linebackers in it, but they've not yet made a splash with anyone that is a true linebacker.

In two weeks, they'll get a visit from one of the Midwest's best, Indianapolis Cathedral's Pete Werner. Werner is the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, the country's 26th-ranked linebacker and Indiana's second-ranked 2017 prospect.

"I'm visiting Ohio State on the 25th," Werner told Eleven Warriors. "(Luke Fickell) and I talk every week."

For Werner, the visit to Columbus will be his first. It's a key trip for a player that has already started to narrow his list.

"I have cut my list," he said. "I have a few schools left to make my decision. I just need a better feel for the school and the team and coaches. Academics, the people, and the football program is very important."

Werner visited Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin last month and this weekend will head to Michigan and Notre Dame before making his visit to Columbus next weekend. He has 27 offers and a slew of them happened in the last two months. He's gone from relative obscurity to a national name and that transition has been a challenging one occasionally.

"It's very overwhelming," Werner added of the recruiting process. "I did not expect this. Things were very quiet."

Yep, my ND insider, who is a legit insider said that Werner will be a Buckeye. He said ND is pissed losing him. Apparently a very talented kid coming off double hip surgery.

I will re-check, that info came from my ND buddy, so, I got that second hand. That being said, he works for the Irish Sports daily in a mildly significant role (side line passes, goes to all the games, has media privileges) so he is usually right on the money.

Ok, he told me that he is 100% right, here is just one of the articles on it: http://www.news-sentinel.com/sports...-recruits-battling-health-issues-at-Cathedral

It wasn’t easy for Werner to sit out the season opener.
“You’re there with all your buddies, and you want to get out on the field so bad, but you can’t,” Werner said. “It was hard, but it was good to see the guys succeed and come out with a win.”
Werner experienced progressively worse pain during track season, and learned extra bone on his femurs had caused dual labral tears. The surgeon shaved down the bone, made repairs, and Werner began the lengthy recovery process.
Cathedral coach Rick Streiff says in Indiana, there’s no need to rush players back from early-season injuries, so players like Werner and Stepp can take their time.

A surgery like that seems significant.. what's the likelyhood of this affecting him in the future? Hopefully the chances are low.. both for football & life.
