“Right now, I can say that Ohio State is my leader in the process,” said Jeffrey Okudah, the No. 10-ranked player in the ESPN Junior 300. “It’s my first time naming a leader in the process. I’m pretty confident that Ohio State is theschool that is number one with me right now with the relationships Ihave developed with the coaching staff. That’s why I will be going out there for the Michigan State game. I know that’s a pretty big game.”

The versatile, 6-foot-1, 199-pound defensive back could play safety, nickel or corner at the next level and wants to play for a football program that excels on the field, but the Buckeyes have impressed him in a number of ways.

“It’s relationships. It’s also kind of going back towards the East Coast near New Jersey where I’m from,” Okudah said. “Academics are big too. I know Ohio State has a really great network. Coach [Urban] Meyer helps the job fair every year. So that is something great after football ends. They are also No. 1 in the country, so I could get the best of all worlds.”

Having received more than 30 offers to date with half of his junior season remaining, cutting down a list can be a difficult task. While Ohio State has emerged as the favorite, this recruitment is far from over.

There are currently four schools on the heels of the national C=champions.

“I’m definitely feeling Stanford, Florida State as well as LSU. Texas A&M too.”

The nation’s No. 2-ranked 2017 safety prospect will take an unofficial visit Saturday to nearby TCU for the Horned Frogs game against the Texas Longhorns.

OKUDAH SAYS VISIT IS STILL ON

When it comes to making an unofficial visit from Texas to Ohio in late November, saying you're going to and actually following through with the trip are often two very different things. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, 2017 five-star safety Jeffery Okudah, who told 11W in September that he planned on returning to Columbus on Nov. 21, it appears that nothing has changed on his end. He will be at Ohio State for their big game against Michigan State.

    From Scout.com:

Okudah, the country's top-ranked safety and 10th-ranked overall prospect in the 2017 class, named Ohio State as his favorite last month, and it seems that this visit could go a long way towards cementing their place at the top of his list.

Baylor is currently the 247Sports.com crystal ball leader, but a second, on-his-own-dime trip to Columbus in five months isn't easy to overlook.

OKUDAH EXCITED FOR RETURN TO COLUMBUS

Although there will be a number of big-time visitors on-hand for Ohio State's mega-contest against Michigan State next weekend, 2017 five-star safety Jeffrey Okudah is one of the biggest. The Grand Prairie, Texas, star — who lists the Buckeyes as his current leader — says he's really looking forward to the visit. He hasn't been on campus since a mid-June trip to Columbus.

"I talk to Chris Ash every day," Okudah told Eleven Warriors. "Things are going great and I'm still excited for this trip."

The country's 10th-ranked 2017 prospect will arrive in Columbus with his family on Saturday morning. He and his South Grand Prairie teammates are still alive in the Texas playoffs, knocking off Euless Trinity—the country's third-ranked team—on Friday night.

For Okudah, who stands at 6-foot-2 and just under 200 pounds, the relationship with Ash is a key to his recruitment. He knows that with all the coaching openings around the country that there's a chance the Buckeyes' defensive coordinator may not be there by the time he enrolls in college.

"It would have some effect," Okudah told 11W. "If he was to leave and a great defensive backs coach was hired, I'd have no problem. I'd be confident with whomever was hired, I'd just have to do some research."

ASH'S DEPARTURE AND THE POTENTIAL IMPACT

As we've mentioned recently, the odds were always pretty high that Ohio State would lose at least one of their coordinators this off-season. That came to fruition today as Chris Ash was officially announced as the new head coach at Rutgers. While it's not yet sure who the Buckeyes could turn to as they look to replace Ash, there's no doubt that a number of prospects he was responsible for recruiting are going to be keeping a close eye on what happens.

About three weeks ago, we talked to 2017 five-star Jeffrey Okudah, who said then that the potential departure of Ash would certainly impact his recruitment.

"It would have some effect," Okudah told 11W. "If he was to leave and a great defensive backs coach was hired, I'd have no problem. I'd be confident with whomever was hired, I'd just have to do some research."

Monday, Okudah commented again and echoed his previous statement, saying that there's been few people he's gotten to know better in his recruitment than the new head coach of the Scarlet Knights.

"I'm just being patient," Okudah said. "(I need) to see who is in place. (I) was closest with Ash out of maybe every coach I communicate with."

Okudah is one of the more high-profile kids recruited by Ash, but certainly not the only one bound to be impacted by his leaving.
