Kedrick Bingley-Jones talks about Ohio State offer

Ohio State offered a new Class of 2020 defensive lineman on Thurdsay and he told Lettermen Row it’s one that he’s been waiting for.

“It’s huge,” Kedrick Bingley-Jones shared moments after posting his offer on social media. “This is one I’ve been hoping to earn for a long time. I’m definitely taking them into consideration. I have payed attention to people like Joey Bosa and other defensive linemen who have came out of there. I know the academics for the school are really huge, and that plays an important role for me.”

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end/tight end isn’t just offering up lip service, either. The news of today’s offer promptly led to a campus visit being arranged.

“Coach Wilson and Coach Johnson, that’s who I spoke over the phone with,” he said. “I will be up there for a visit on June 22.”

    A QUICK TURNAROUND
Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson extended a scholarship offer on Thursday afternoon to Kannapolis, North Carolina, A.L. Brown three-star defensive end Kedrick Bingley-Jones.

“It meant a lot because I been waiting on this offer for a long time,” Bingley-Jones told Eleven Warriors. “The history of the program and the great defensive linemen that came out of there and the academics are huge at Ohio State, which means a lot to me.”

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Bingley-Jones is considered the 13th-best strong-side defensive end and No. 294 prospect overall in the Class of 2020, though he racked up an absurd 60 tackles, 40 quarterback hurries, 22 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass break up to lead the Wonders to the second round of the state playoffs last fall. He holds nearly 20 offers from programs such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

Bingley-Jones — who has also been in contact with offensive coordinator and area recruiter Kevin Wilson since the coach visited his school two weeks ago — will make his first trip to campus on June 22, which is shaping up to be quite the recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes.

    FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING
When Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson offered a scholarship earlier this month to Charlotte Providence Day School four-star defensive end Kedrick Bingley-Jones, he also invited him to attend Friday Night Lights.

“It was amazing,” Bingley-Jones told Eleven Warriors. “I loved it up there.”

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Bingley-Jones — who is considered the 12th-best strong-side defensive end and No. 286 prospect overall in the Class of 2020 — felt he got to see everything the Buckeyes have to offer during his first trip to campus, with a tour of the university, the football team’s facilities and Ohio Stadium. He also received one-on-one instruction from Johnson during Friday evening’s camp.

“It was a great experience,” Bingley-Jones said. “I see why he puts people in the pros consistently. He taught me different hand moves and different ways to approach being a pass-rusher.”

Bingley-Jones holds nearly 20 offers from programs such as Florida, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, but said Ohio State sits in a great spot earlier in his recruitment.

“They are right now at the top of the list with Georgia and Tennessee,” he said. “Those are the schools that stood out so far.”

Bingley-Jones plans to return to campus for a game in the fall.

Former Florida commit hoping for contact with Ohio State
Last June we talked with Providence Day School (Charlotte, N.C.) defensive lineman Kedrick Bingley-Jones after he was offered by the Buckeyes.

“It’s huge,” the 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman said. “This is one I’ve been hoping to earn for a long time. I’m definitely taking them into consideration. I have paid attention to people like Joey Bosa and other defensive linemen who have come out of there. I know the academics for the school are really huge, and that plays an important role for me.”

Bingley may have taken Ohio State into consideration, but didn’t do it for long — he committed to Florida at the end of July. However, as recruitments do go these days, it ended in a decommitment months later and the country’s 10th-ranked strongside defensive end was back on the market as of mid-January.

One of the first schools he reached out to was Ohio State.

“I’m going to try and be in more contact with the Buckeyes,” he said. “Maybe they’ll be in more contact since I decommitted.”

This week, Bingley-Jones spoke with Larry Johnson and was told his scholarship offer from Ohio State still stood and that the program wanted to get him on campus this spring. Stay tuned to see if that happens.
