Ohio State makes top 5 for California star receiver Call it the lure of Ohio State or the impact of Brian Hartline on the recruiting trail. Call it whatever you want, but the Buckeyes are becoming a pretty dangerous team on the recruiting trail when it comes to wide receivers. The latest bit of evidence to support that? Calabasas (Calif.) 5-star Johnny Wilson’s top-five list includes Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Texas and Ohio State. Wilson was offered by the Buckeyes in December, and though he’s not visited the school, he clearly thinks very highly of what they are building offensively. He’s the country’s second-ranked receiver according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and the 6-foot-5, 215-pound wideout has almost 40 scholarship offers to this point. The Buckeyes have two 2020 receivers committed already in Texas 4-star Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Washington 4-star Gee Scott. And they are hoping to add at least two, maybe three, more if the right names want to come aboard. The main targets remain Rakim Jarrett, Julian Fleming and Marcus Rosemy. Ryan Day and his Buckeyes would have a tough time turning a prospect like Johnny Wilson away if he’s serious about the program and not just using the Ohio State name as a resume booster.
