    ALWAYS ON TARGET

It's rare for Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer to look for talent in a state like Massachusetts. In fact, he'd only handed out two offers there previously, eventually landing both defensive back Armani Reeves and linebacker Camren Williams from the same high school — West Roxbury Catholic Memorial — as part of his first recruiting class in Columbus.

The Buckeyes went back to New England on Wednesday, though, at which time the staff offered a scholarship to Everett four-star safety Lewis Cine.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Cine is considered the fifth-best safety and No. 56 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as he was an integral part of the Crimson Tide winning the state championship last season. He holds offers from nearly two dozen programs, including Boston College, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Born in Haiti, Cine moved to Florida when he was five years old and didn't play football until his family moved to Everett at the age of 11. He's been described as a hard-hitting linebacker with the size of an elite defensive back.

New safety offer in Class of 2019

It’s been a few years since Ohio State recruited the state of Massachusetts, but on Wednesday they offered Lewis Cine, a 4-star safety from Everett High School.

Cine is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound missile in the defensive backfield, as is evidenced on his highlight film.

The offer from Ohio State is his 22nd, putting Ohio State in league with Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and others.

    SINGLED OUT

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer rarely goes into a state like Massachusetts looking for top-rated prospects, so it goes without saying a recent offer to Everett four-star safety Lewis Cine is a big deal.

“It's a very big thing, both recruiting-wise and in the fact of knowing they want me,” Cine told Eleven Warriors.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Cine is considered the fifth-best safety and No. 56 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as he was played integral part of the Crimson Tide winning its 11th state championship last season. He holds offers from nearly two dozen programs, including Boston College, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

If he eventually chooses the Buckeyes, Cine will join former West Roxbury Catholic Memorial teammates Armani Reeves and Camren Williams as the only Bay Staters to play under Meyer. He recruited them both as part of his first class in Columbus.

Director of player personnel Mark Pantoni, who extended the offer last week, has been the only coach in contact thus far. Cine hopes to change that, however, when he makes his first trip to campus next spring.

Lewis Cine glad to get Buckeyes offer

Before my vacation last week, I talked to you guys about Lewis Cine, a 4-star 2019 safety from Everett, Mass., who recently picked up an offer from Ohio State. The offer, his 22nd, was one he hoped to land.

“I was waiting for that offer,” Cine told Land of 10. “I’ve had interest in them for the longest time.”

The offer came via Ryan Day, who recruits the Northeast for Ohio State, but it was the result of an impressive performance at Friday Night Lights in Columbus this past July.

“I was at camp there,” he said. “And they said they’ve been keeping up with my highlights in the season and they love the way I run around and make plays. They loved [my tape] and wanted to offer.”

Though he was excited about the offer, there’s no plans for any immediate visit back to campus for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect.

“We are in the playoffs now,” he said. “So [a visit] would be tough, because we’ve got to focus on that.”

    LEARN FROM THE BEST

Another prospect eyeing a visit this spring is Cedar Hill, Texas, Trinity Christian four-star safety Lewis Cine, who recently announced he’ll be transferring from Everett, Massachusetts, for his senior season. It would be his first trip to Columbus since Ohio State offered him a scholarship in October.

“I just haven’t put it in my schedule yet,” Cine told Eleven Warriors.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Cine is considered the third-best safety and No. 37 prospect overall in the Class of 2019, as he recorded 65 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick to lead the Crimson Tide to the state championship while allowing just four points per game last season. He holds more than 30 offers from programs such as Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas, USC and Virginia Tech.

Cine — who was born in Haiti and moved to the United States when he was 5 years old — didn’t specify a reason for his transfer. But now he gets to learn from NFL legend Deion Sanders, who is an assistant with the Tigers when he’s not working for CBS Sports and the NFL Network.
