He actually moves well for his size. Probably a 2-3 year development type player. I don’t mind the offer since we have some really good young OT’s

    Dawand Jones • Offensive Tackle • Indianapolis, Indiana • ★★★ • Nat. Rank: 1020
Mentor's Ryan Jacoby is the lone offensive tackle signee for Greg Studrawa and the Buckeyes, and the position remains a need for 2019. Kevin Wilson has been all over the recruitment of three-star Indy tackle Dawand Jones, and the 6-foot-8, 360-pounder has seen his recruitment explode in recent months.

Jones has earned offers from Michigan, Penn State, Auburn, Florida, USC, and Oregon and his recruitment seems nowhere close to complete. He's set to take a few more visits in January and the Buckeyes appear to be in line for an official. The massive tackle also holds offers on the hardwood which adds an extra level of athletic appeal.

Florida State and USC have seemed like the top competition but in the last 24 hours a pair of Seminole insiders have submitted crystal ball picks for the Buckeyes.

Dawand Jones sets official visit to Ohio State
Before Nester makes his official visit next weekend, the Buckeyes are set to host another 2019 offensive lineman on an official visit.

“This weekend,” Dawand Jones told Lettermen Row. “My mom is coming with me.”

Jones made a November unofficial visit to Ohio State, and it has recently become a major contender the recruitment of the 6-foot-8, 360-pound 3-star lineman from Indianapolis.

“They’ve got a great coaching staff,” Jones said. “It feels like home and I know [offensive line coach Greg] Studrawa is one of the coaches that can get me to the league and develop me.”

A two-sport star at Ben Davis High School, Jones has exploded onto the national recruiting scene in the last two months. He’s added offers from Ohio State, USC, Michigan, Florida State, Penn State, Auburn and Florida — and now holds 20 scholarship opportunities overall. He’s taken an official visit to USC already. and this weekend could be a major opportunity for the Buckeyes to lock him in.

“I don’t know where I want to go yet,” Jones said. “But Ohio State is very high on my list.”

Kevin Wilson has been the primary recruiter for Jones to this point, and the Buckeyes lead the 247Sports.com crystal ball predictions for his signature.

Dawand Jones reschedules official visit to Ohio State
The planned official visit to Ohio State this weekend for Indianapolis 3-star offensive lineman Dawand Jones did not happen. The country’s 88th-ranked offensive tackle had told Lettermen Row on Thursday night he was trekking to Columbus, but inclement weather changed his mind.

“We didn’t end up going,” Jones told Lettermen Row on Sunday morning. “We are going to go Martin Luther King weekend instead. The weather was supposed to be bad, so we rescheduled.”

Had the 6-foot-8, 360-pound Jones visited this weekend, he’d likely have been the only visitor on campus. While that allows the coaching staff a unique opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with him, it wouldn’t provide the rising prospect a chance to get familiarized with the guys he could end up playing alongside in college. Showing up next weekend, when Harry Miller and Doug Nester will be in town and with Ryan Jacoby already enrolled with Ohio State, is a better chance to get to know his peers.

“We decided we should just wait until next week,” Jones said. “They’ll have their recruits there anyway, so I can hang out with guys that could be my future teammates.”

Ohio State would like to sign two more offensive linemen in this cycle, and now its top two targets will be on campus next weekend. There’s not much of a chance that Jones ends his recruitment before signing day, however. He’s going to take two more official visits following the trip with the Buckeyes, but he’s not sure which schools are going to get them.

“I’m taking my last two visits,” he said. “I just don’t know the schools yet.”
