    H-TOWN TAKEOVER

The Buckeyes also offered a scholarship last night to Houston, Texas, Lamar four-star wide receiver Al'vonte Woodard.

The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Woodard is considered the 14th-best wideout and No. 84 prospect overall in the Class of 2018. He holds nearly two dozen offers from programs such as Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.

Woodard hauled in 42 passes as a junior for 909 yards and 15 touchdowns to help the Texans to the third round of the state playoffs. He is the teammate of five-star cornerback target Anthony Cook.

    LET'S DO IT AGAIN

Ohio State landed three of the top six players from the state of Texas earlier this year, a feat that's not going to be easy to repeat in 2018. If there's any school that can do it, though...

The Buckeyes are already among the leaders for Houston Lamar five-star cornerback Anthony Cook and recently made the cut for Houston Alief Taylor five-star wide receiver Brennan Eagles. On Thursday night, four-star wide receiver Al'vonte Woodard — Cook's teammate — also included Ohio State in his Top 5 alongside LSU, Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M.

Now wouldn't that be quite the haul?

The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Woodard is considered the 12th-best wideout and No. 70 prospect overall in the Class of 2018, as he caught 42 passes for 909 yards and 15 touchdowns to help the Texans to the third round of the state playoffs last season.

The Longhorns, naturally, are the overwhelming favorite to land Woodard's pledge, but he doesn't plan on making a decision on his future until after his senior season. He'll take an official visit to Columbus this fall, which will undoubtedly put the Buckeyes in the conversation late — and it could possibly be a package deal.

    MAKING EACH OTHER BETTER

Another wide receiver who continues to get to know Meyer and the staff from afar is Houston Lamar four-star Al'vonte Woodard, who recently included the Buckeyes among his Top 5.

“What's really not to like about Ohio State? I like the way they've been recruiting me,” Woodard told Eleven Warriors. “Coach Smith and I have a great relationship. Coach Meyer texts me every day.”

The 6-foot-1, 193-pound Woodard is considered the 14th-best wideout and No. 74 prospect overall in the Class of 2018, as he caught 42 passes for 909 yards and 15 touchdowns to help the Texans to the third round of the state playoffs last season. He's set to make his college decision on July 15, and Texas is expected to be his choice.

That, of course, hasn't stopped Meyer from putting down the full-court press. He spent a considerable amount of time with Woodard and his teammate, five-star cornerback Anthony Cook, at the Texas Southern satellite camp earlier this month.

“Talking to them in person and actually getting to see them face-to-face, I can tell that they're real,” Woodard said.

Cook is arguably the staff's top defensive target, and pairing him with Woodard isn't too far-fetched of an idea. It's actually something they discuss regularly.

“Playing with Anthony is amazing because he's very competitive in practice. He's one of the top defensive backs [and] I'm one of the top receivers, so it's very competitive,” Woodard said. “We've been talking about [playing together at the next level], but we'll see what happens.”

Woodard plans to take official visits even after his commitment, and I expect Ohio State to be one of them. Cook will attend the game against Oklahoma, so maybe he'll tag along.

Al'vonte Woodard: The four-star wide receiver from Houston Lamar is not necessarily the flashiest receiver but he just does everything well. He provided an outlet for when quarterbacks needed a first down but also was able to get behind the entire defense a few times. He had a 60-yard touchdown reception from Justin Rogers and then, in the same game, had a 70-yard score called back due to the quarterback taking more than four seconds.
