Isheem Young still talking about Ohio State visit Ohio State has two safeties committed already in the 2018 class (Jaiden Woodbey and Josh Proctor) but the Buckeyes remain a top school for others, including Philadelphia Imhotep Institute 4-star prospect Isheem Young. The country’s 12th-ranked safety has talked about his interest in the Buckeyes for months, but to this point, he’s not yet made a trip to Ohio State’s campus. According to Tyler Donahue, Land of 10’s Penn State recruiting analyst, Young intends to release his top 5 schools in June. He told Donahue that the Buckeyes are a “safe bet” to make the list. He shared Alabama, Clemson, Maryland, Ohio State and West Virginia are in line to welcome him to campus in the coming months. The Buckeyes stick out on this list due to ongoing communication between coaches and Young, who has never been to Columbus. “It’s a trip I definitely need to take because they’ve been recruiting me very hard,” he said. “I want to see how they coach up their defensive backs.” As noted, this kind of talk from Young isn’t new, but him getting to campus for a visit, would be. Will he finally make the trip?

PENN STATE'S TO LOSE Philadelphia Imhotep Charter four-star safety Isheem Young included Ohio State in his Top 6 of Friday night alongside Alabama, Clemson, Maryland, Penn State and West Virginia. The 5-foot-10, 201-pound Young is considered the 12th-best safety and No. 118 prospect overall in the Class of 2018, as he recorded 32 tackles and three interceptions to lead the Panthers to the state title game last season. He will make his college decision on July 18. Ohio State offered Young in early September, but he has not made the trip to campus since. Defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs stopped by his high school during the spring, too, but given the Buckeyes already hold commitments from four-star safeties Josh Proctor and Jaiden Woodbey, the chances he ends up in Columbus are slim to none. Penn State, meanwhile, is the favorite in Young's recruitment. He's been to Happy Valley three times this spring, but nowhere else.

FROM A MILE AWAY Though he included Ohio State in his Top 6 last month, Philadelphia Imhotep Charter four-star safety Isheem Young committed to Penn State on Tuesday afternoon. He becomes the sixth prospect to commit to the Nittany Lions is the last five days. The Buckeyes offered the 5-foot-10, 201-pound Young — considered the 12-best safety and No. 116 prospect overall in the Class of 2018 — in early September, but he never made a trip to campus. This weekend's trip to State College was his fourth this offseason, however, so it was easy to see from afar which way this was trending. Ohio State holds commitments from four-stars Josh Proctor and Jaiden Woodbey, both of which are ranked among the Top 10 players at the safety position, anyway.
Isheem Young, a Penn State commit and star at Imhotep Institute Charter High School, was in police custody ahead of his high school’s state playoff game Friday and was arraigned on counts of robbery, conspiracy and firearms violations, Philly.com reported. Young was charged with robbing a Wawa in Philadelphia in July, along with two accomplices, according to the report. In the summer, Young — a 4-star senior defensive back and running back — committed to Penn State over schools including Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama. He is one of the top defensive back prospects in the nation and is expected to sign with the Nittany Lions on Dec. 20. However, given what has transpired, it is unclear whether his signing will happen on that date or at all. Young was ranked the No. 5 recruit in Pennsylvania, and ESPN ranked him No. 170 in the country among recruits.
