Jackson Carman - The 6-foot-6, 290-pound five-star from Fairfield, Ohio, looked like he was going to make a run at the Alpha Dog title before struggling against some of the quicker pass rushers toward the end. Still, he played on the left side all evening and did quite well against defensive ends lined in a wide-nine technique. He got out of his stance quickly and cut off their angles to the quarterback.

Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman was really good technically, has really good body control and the athleticism coveted at the position. Ohio State, Clemson and USC make up the top three.

Five-star offensive lineman Jackson Carman was the top offensive tackle at the camp on Monday controlling the edge with his wide frame, good lateral quickness and strong technique. He also racked up a couple highlight reel blocks. Carman also took reps at guard. Clemson, Ohio State and USC are among the programs battling for the nation's No. 1 player at his position.

Jackson Carman isn’t announcing anytime soon

Speaking of Jackson Carman, there was a tweet Wednesday from a usually well-dialed in California analyst that indicated he’d be making a college decision on July 21. That was refuted quickly by Carman and the originating tweet has been taken down.

There is no plan for the country’s No. 1-ranked offensive tackle to commit anytime soon. It’s likely that the report misconstrued weekend discussions about Carman deciding what school to visit – Ohio State or Clemson – on July 21.

Right now, it appears things are pretty close to even for Carman between those two schools and USC, where he spent a weekend in mid-June. There was not an overwhelming amount of confidence from Buckeyes commits at The Opening finals, which should be concerning for Ohio State fans as the summer continues to unfold.

Carman is an enigma, no doubt, but he’s also at the very top of the “must-get” list for Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes. That usually works out in Ohio State’s favor.

A scouting report on Jackson Carman

While one top Buckeyes target moved up in the rankings, another — Jackson Carman — did not. Carman dropped from No. 13 in the 247Sports rankings to No. 15, but like Woodbey, Gill and a few others had a good showing at The Opening finals in Oregon.

Though he dipped a bit, Carman remains the top-ranked offensive tackle in the country and the second-best offensive line prospect in the class, behind Georgia 5-star guard Jamaree Salyer.

That is right where Carman should be slotted, according to Todd Huber, the former Director of Football for Students Sports, the group responsible for The Opening. Huber’s specialty has been offensive line and he spent time in Oregon dissecting the group.

“He’s a stud,” Huber told Land of 10. “He is really, really good. I think his frame [center of gravity and arm length] projects better long-term at guard, but there are no holes in his game.”

Carman, from Fairfield, Ohio, near Cincinnati, was limited in what he could do at The Opening because Ohio high school rules prohibit full contact. But after the effort he put forth, Huber is confident he’s got the goods to be a big-time player at the next level.

“I think Jamaree Salyer is the best prospect on the offensive line this year,” Huber said. “Jackson would probably be next for me overall, regardless of position. He’s a smart, inquisitive kid.

“I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with him, so I don’t know what makes him tick, but he certainly asked some good graduate-level questions in meetings. He seems like a bright kid and his tape shows he knows how to play ball. There is no reason to think he doesn’t have the intangibles to succeed in college.”

    AND WE'VE KNOWN THIS, MAN

Though he said as much during Nike Football's The Opening Finals earlier this month, WCPO-TV in Cincinnati reported on Thursday afternoon that Fairfield five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman has narrowed down his more than 40 offers to Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-6, 360-pound Carman is considered the top-rated offensive tackle and No. 8 prospect overall in the Class of 2018. He reportedly plans to formally announce his Top 5 later this summer and take official visits to all five schools this fall.

You can certainly expect his December decision to come down to the Buckeyes and Tigers, though things seem to be trending toward the former after Carman showed up unannounced at Ohio State's Friday Night Lights instead of Clemson's All-In Cookout this past weekend.
