    ON HIS TIME

Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller four-star defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins, on the other hand, was set to make his college decision on May 10. His plans have changed, however.

“I needed to take a step back and remember why I do what I do,” Hawkins told Eleven Warriors. “The decision will come soon, but on God's timing. Not mine.”

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Hawkins — the son of former NFL defensive back Artrell and nephew of wide receiver Andrew — is considered the top-rated defensive tackle in the state and No. 265 prospect overall in the Class of 2018. He holds nearly three dozen offers from programs such as Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and USC, but Ohio State is presumed to be the favorite.

Hawkins recorded 42 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumbles for the Fighting Crusaders last season.

    THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY?

Just days after he decided to push back his college announcement, Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller four-star defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins returned to Ohio State for the umpteenth time.

The trip loomed somewhat large following Hawkins' recent Penn State visit and Cincinnati's emergence under Luke Fickell, but the staff should certainly feel good about its standing in his recruitment.

"It was perfect, man," Hawkins told Eleven Warriors.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Hawkins watched practice and spent most of his day with defensive line coach Larry Johnson, as the two watched Hawkins' game film and talked about his possible role at Ohio State.

The three above-mentioned schools will likely be Hawkins' finalists if he narrows things down before making a decision. But if the Buckeyes are going to pull this one out, they absolutely must continue to show him that he's a priority.

    Aeneas Hawkins • 2018 DL • Cincinnati, Ohio (Moeller) • ★★★★

Four-star defensive lineman Aeneas Hawkins will be back on campus for the second time this month. The Queen City defender's recruitment looks rather wide open right now after he backed off his May decision timeline, but the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are the frontrunners here with Cincinnati also in the picture.

Ohio State's defensive line recruiting remains a bit of a mystery, but after landing five-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent, the staff may look to push a little harder for other prospects in the trenches. Hawkins is a unique player because at 6-foot-3 and 265 pounds he could end up on the inside or at defensive end.

The Moeller star was on commitment watch for a while but then elected to take a step back and not rush into things. Still, anything can happen at these kind of events and he certainly hasn't been shy about his affinity for the Buckeyes.
