Looks like we're gonna miss out on this one.

Last 2 OSU RBs both forewent their senior years, and are starting in the league right now (Hyde/Zeke). Weber looks to be on pace to do the same. Outside of Bama, not sure if there's a better path to the pros than TOSU. Just gotta win the job.

I highly doubt we land Zamir, but he'd be a huge get! I just hope he pays attention and sees Weber rush for 1,500+ yards and get drafted making that three consecutive starting RB's.

    Zamir White | RB | Scotland County (Laurinburg, N.C.) | National Rank: 5 | Position Rank: 1

While Georgia remains the favorite to land Zamir White, people close to his recruitment continue to beat a drum that is at least encouraging for Ohio State: the Buckeyes are the program that he prefers.

However, Ohio State does not appear to be the school his mother prefers, and that’s where things get messy. For the Buckeyes to pull off this coup, White’s mom must come on board. And they need to move fast with their courtship. White has said he will announce his college decision on his mother’s birthday, June 27.

The odds are low that White chooses against her on her birthday. Meyer and running backs coach Tony Alford must get to work on understanding why she apparently favors the Bulldogs over the Buckeyes.

Zamir White situation continues to evolve

Don’t get excited, Buckeyes fans, but stay mindful: Things that are happening down south may have some residual impact on Ohio State’s top running back target, Zamir White.

In case you’re unfamiliar, here’s the deal with Zamir White: He’s from North Carolina and is the country’s top-ranked running back. He’s been to Ohio State three times in the last year but the belief around him is that Georgia is the team to beat, because that’s been stated publicly and White and his mother have been to Athens a half-dozen times.

But there’s no doubt that Ohio State is involved and multiple folks close to White have suggested that the Buckeyes are his personal favorite. Of course, a college decision is a family decision, and the Ohio State coaching staff isn’t just trying to persuade the running back but also his family. Urban Meyer, Tony Alford and the rest of the Buckeyes staff have about one month to make that happen: He decides on June 27, his mother’s birthday.

Georgia, as noted, is the favorite. The Bulldogs are also the favorite to land 4-star tailback Master Teague, a Murfreesboro, Tenn., standout we’ve spoken about, and with, here a few times. Teague, who had been considering a camp appearance in Columbus in June with Ohio State in the hopes to earn an offer from the Buckeyes, recently cut his list of schools to three and hinted that a decision is coming soon. Georgia is expected to be the choice.

That would mean Ohio State, with Brian Snead committed, and the Bulldogs would each be fighting for Zamir White with another player already pledged at the position. The Bulldogs have also – recently – become the expected landing spot for Dameon Pierce, who de-committed from Alabama over the weekend, but that speculation is premature.

“(Pierce) went to G-Day,” one source in Georgia shared with Land of 10. “He didn’t get any real attention from the staff. I don’t think it will be Georgia. Auburn and Florida State are on him.”

This source believes the Bulldogs are still likely to land their top two targets at tailback.

“My Georgia sources,” he said, “still feel they have Zamir and Master.”

Ohio State is not that confident, but there is a sense that things have started to look up. Whether that can continue for the next month, and whether they can persuade Zamir White and his mother to make one more trip to Columbus, is the real challenge.

    MOTHER KNOWS BEST

Though Laurinburg, North Carolina, Scotland County five-star running back Zamir White is set to make his college decision a month from Saturday, he doesn't get too wrapped up in the recruiting process like so many other top prospects. He's never asked for Twitter followers, rarely grants interview requests and just goes about his business on and off the football field.

His mother, Shanee, has sort of become his official spokesperson as a result. The two are very close, as I've detailed previously, and she's been at Zamir's side for trips to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State this spring.

“It was nice up there,” Shanee White told Dawgs247 when asked about her first trip to Columbus. “All the coaches are real nice guys and all of them seem down to earth. Urban Meyer, I met him and we sat in his office and talked, and then we went to the game. He was out there trying to get my attention in the middle of the game. [I'd] never seen that before.

“I think it's a good program,” she continued. “A nice place, a good atmosphere [and] their fans are crazy. Their fans are everywhere for just the spring game.”

Most prognosticators, including myself, believe White will pick the Bulldogs next month because they were one of the first programs to offer him a scholarship and campus isn't all that far away from home. His mom is a big fan, too, and it's hard to see him going against her favorite team on her big day.

“I want him to make his own decision because if he gets there and does not like it, he is going to stay because it he chose it,” Shanee said. “It is going to be his decision [though] I tell him what I think of each program because I am pretty good at reading people.

“I think [his decision] is going to be about family,” she continued. “Zamir likes to be around his family. He is a momma's boy. I think it is going to boil down to can momma get to me or not.”

She didn't seem too keen on the eight-hour trip to Columbus, either.

“It's something you have to get used to because once you go through West Virginia, all those country roads, it seems like it takes forever to get out of there.”

Those close to the program told Eleven Warriors that Ohio State continues to feel confident in its chances, though, which is why my colleague Andrew Ellis placed his 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Buckeyes yesterday. If the staff can convince White's mother that her flight from Charlotte to Columbus would take the same amount of time as her trip to Athens, maybe then they'll have a chance to pull the upset.

Why I put in a crystal ball for Zamir White and Ohio State
I wrote a story earlier Tuesday about the players I think will end up with the Buckeyes come signing day. The piece focused on the offense and included 5-star running back Zamir White, the country’s top-ranked running back and a player who is widely believed to be heading to the University of Georgia.

I added a 247Sports.com crystal ball prediction for White — to Ohio State — on Tuesday afternoon.

I have talked a few times recently about White, and how I felt that things were much closer than people were letting on. I’ve been told by multiple people (on different sides of this recruitment) that the player prefers Ohio State. Those rumors were always paired with this asterisk: White’s mother, Shanee, reportedly favored Georgia, and the two have been to Athens more than they’ve been anywhere, by a long shot.

While White and his mom have been to Columbus three times in the last year, the physical distance between Ohio State and his other top schools is something to consider, and all indications were that mom preferred him to stay close to his North Carolina home. That information, coupled with the fact that White is committing on June 27, his mother’s birthday, was something that had to be considered as the driving force in his recruitment.

Over the last few weeks, though, sources have indicated a softening stance toward Ohio State, providing a new wave of optimism on the Buckeyes’ side of things. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and running backs coach Tony Alford are not going to give up the fight for White — who is a perfect fit for their offense — if they believe they have a chance to change mom’s mind (if it needs changing). The Buckeyes believe that they are capable of landing any player in the country, but their recruiting staff doesn’t waste time and resources on a player unless the Buckeyes are in a serious position to land a commitment.

There are multiple people close to this situation who feel Ohio State has been the team to beat for White for a while. With a little less than a month remaining in this pursuit, everything is moving in the right direction. There’s no plan for a June visit to Ohio State. If that were to happen, it would be a major sign that this smoke is turning into fire.

I am not someone who lives and dies by the “crystal ball” choices, and I rarely make one. With a player of this magnitude, though, I wanted to expound on my decision. A lot can change, and the decision date remains a concern if his mom isn’t on board with Ohio State. But I believe that’s where this is heading.

This is the best RB prospect I've seen since Adrian Peterson. He's a mirror image of Zeke, stylistically. I wrote White off a while ago. But it appears we are right in the mix. Incredible!

I love the two RB's that we have...With that said, this kid is going to be a great college RB. Calling it now, if he stays healthy, he'll with the Heisman.
