    EMORY JONES BACK TO TWO?
One player that people have expected to be leaning towards Ohio State, Georgia 2018 quarterback Emory Jones, may be backing off a plan to make his college decision this week. The country’s second-ranked dual-threat quarterback spent two days in Knoxville this past weekend and it seems the Volunteers did exactly what they needed to.

“Tennessee really gave me their all,” Jones shared with Landof10.com. “It was amazing. They’re probably back even (with Ohio State).”

While that sounds like bad news for Tim Beck and the Buckeyes, it definitely could be worse. Butch Jones and the Vols landed eight commitments thanks to their big “Orange Carpet” weekend and Jones wasn’t one of them. To say no in the face of significant pressure to say yes means Ohio State had a pretty comfortable cushion. If you remember, before receiving his Ohio State offer, Jones was close – really close – to committing to Tennessee. The reason he didn’t? Ohio State was his “dream school.” Hearing from the Buckeyes changed his entire recruitment and that’s telling. Ohio State has a lot of influence in his recruitment. Only the Buckeyes’ interest and surge prevented him from committing to Tennessee. The Buckeyes may not lead right now (though I think they probably still do), but they’re not trailing.

While the Volunteers didn’t get the huge commitment they no doubt were pushing for, they did manage to get him to delay a commitment to Ohio State. At least for now.

    What’s the potential hold up?

What methods are Tennessee, Clemson and others using in hopes of fighting off the Buckeyes? A recruiting staple: the depth chart.

Every good program has good players, right? Yes, but other coaches are saying that at Ohio State, Joe Burrow, Dwayne Haskins, Tate Martell and Danny Clark would be on the roster ahead of Jones.

“When will you get playing time, Emory?”

That’s something that is in play here. Will that sway Jones? I don’t know, but I’m not inclined to think so.

There’s another, less important factor as well: distance from home. In 2015, Ohio State missed on Sh’Mar Kilby-Lane, a 4-star linebacker who grew up dreaming of playing for the Buckeyes. Why? Florida State was able to convince him that everything he could get from a college career as a Buckeye, he could get as a Seminole. While it’s debatable Tennessee can match Ohio State on that front, the lure of staying closer to home is always something to watch.

My pick for Jones is still the Buckeyes, and I think that the sooner a decision happens, the more likely it’s Ohio State. It’s important to Jones to commit early. He wants to be a leader in his recruiting class, helping bring talent along with him. The more time that separates him from his recent visit to Tennessee, the more he’ll lean back towards Ohio State.

    Jones set to decide?

When it comes to the future of Ohio State’s recruiting class, you might have a tough time finding a target that the Buckeyes are more focused on than 2018 quarterback Emory Jones (Franklin, GA / Heard County).

Jones, at this point, seems to undoubtedly be Ohio State’s top choice at the position and they could very possibly be on the verge of reeling in a commitment from the four-star dual-threat QB in the very near future.

Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com says (here) that a Jones pledge to the Buckeyes “could come very soon” and he followed that up by even casting a Crystal Ball prediction for Jones to ultimately decide for Ohio State whenever he makes his announcement. As it stands, there are currently 17 predictions for Jones through the 247Sports Crystal Ball – and 76 percent (13 of 17) of those predictions believe Jones will take his talents to Columbus, Ohio.

The biggest threat to the Buckeyes seems to be the Butch Jones’ Tennessee Volunteers. However, the Georgia native is fresh off of a visit to Knoxville, Tenn. and that didn’t do enough to force Kurelic to believe that the Jones pledge won’t be in favor of Ohio State.

Earlier this month after a visit to the Columbus campus, Jones did mention that the Buckeyes were probably his top school and added that a decision would likely come later this month. With just eight days in June remaining, this is one to definitely keep your eyes on. If Head Coach Urban Meyer and Ohio State can reel in the Peach State prospect, it would equal their first commitment in the 2018 cycle and

    Jones, Buckeyes still waiting

The waiting game for Emory Jones continues.

The Buckeyes and Volunteers – with Clemson as an outside contender – remain the favorites to land the country’s second-ranked, dual-threat quarterback for the Class of 2018, and a decision could come at any time.

    It just hasn’t happened yet.

“He’s in shutdown mode,” one source said of Jones. “He doesn’t have much free time. He wants to make a decision soon. I think he wants to try and come up to Ohio State again.”

If that’s the case, it’s likely because Jones’ recent visit to Tennessee really made a big impact on what he thought he was going to do. The Buckeyes were the unquestioned leader coming out of his first visit to Columbus but since then the footing has been a little shaky. As for the 6-foot-2, 195-pound star, he says that right now he’s just trying to keep his focus on his upcoming junior season and turn off a little bit of the pressure that comes with recruiting.

“I’ve just been trying to get my mind away from this recruitment right now,” Jones told Landof10 on Sunday afternoon. “I’m trying to get my high school team together.”

He did confirm that he’d like to make another visit to Ohio State if the schedule can work out that way.

“Yeah, I may try to get back up there,” he added. “It just depends on how my schedule works out.”

He should just wait. A highly rated player regardless of position committing before his junior season is pretty pointless nowadays.

As much as Jones may say he wants to get the recruiting process over with, teams will still recruit him hard until signing day 2018 and if certain circumstances change he'll listen.

EMORY JONES • QB • FRANKLIN, GA (HEARD COUNTY) • COMPOSITE RANKING: NO. 42

We have been talking about Emory Jones for a while now and will continue to do so until he makes an announcement. Tennessee was absolutely the frontrunner until the Buckeyes came calling with an offer. Since that offer, Ohio State has been presumed to be in the driver's seat. Jones visited Columbus in mid-June and then took trips to both Tennessee and Clemson. It was thought that a decision could come before the end of June, but that clearly has not happened.

Most recent reports indicate that the nation's second-ranked dual threat quarterback will return to Knoxville in late July and then check out Friday Night Lights in Columbus. While no definitive timetable has been set, it's reasonable to assume that a decision could come shortly thereafter.

The wait may be lasting a little longer than expected, but the Buckeyes remain in a great spot and certainly could have their 2018 quarterback by the end of the summer.

I watched his film again today and if I didn't know any better you could have told me it was RGIII's film. Jones is a great Passer both in the pocket and on the move. Great straight line speed. Pair him in the back filed with Dobbins or Akers and look out!

Emory Jones is going to be really, really good
While the 2017 commitments were a big story, it was a 2018 quarterback – Franklin (Ga.) 4-star Emory Jones – that stole the show. The reality of the matter is that even with Clark and Martell in attendance, a number of people I spoke with felt that Jones was the best quarterback on hand.

He’s not close to the physical specimen that Clark or Martell are, but when you put things together piece by piece? Jones’ combination of size, speed, arm-strength and still-to-be-tapped-into potential make him – potentially – a really special quarterback. He can make every throw and does it effortlessly. He moves very well in the pocket and is even more dangerous out of it.

“Ask yourself,” one well-connected observer reflected at the end of the night. “Did we have a quarterback that good here last year for camp? What about the year before that? The answer is no. Once he learns the game? Look out.”

What about his recruitment? Jones visited Tennessee on Thursday and while that visit was disconcerting for the Buckeyes, I am confident, after talking to multiple sources on Friday night, that the country’s second-ranked 2018 quarterback will end up playing his college football in Columbus.

I don’t think a commitment will come this weekend, it’d not be a complete shock if he pulled the proverbial trigger for Ohio State before he leaves on Sunday.

Haskins: "Bruh, just look at this roster and the 2017 class."

Jones: "Oh snap, America is about is to experience a world of hurt."

Wiltfong says that Jones is JT Barrett with a stronger arm. I'll take that. But my comparison is RGIII.
