This DL is so good already, and it's only going to get better. Urban has amassed an unbelievable wealth of talent at almost every position, but our D Line is the group that stands out as a whole. I really hope we can hang onto Schiano and Larry Johnson for a while. We might be looking at multiple NC runs over the next few years if we can find a QB to step in after JT and get some more production from our WRs.

    TWO IN A ROW?

It goes without saying Ohio State five-star defensive end commit Brenton Cox is among the most terrifying players in high school football.

Teams ofter run away from his side of the field, yet the Stockbridge, Georgia, native has still recorded two sacks, two quarterback hurries, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for the undefeated Tigers this season.

His exceptional efforts were recognized on Thursday morning when USA TODAY Sports nominated him as a mid-season candidate for the American Family Insurance All-USA Defensive Player of the Year.

Other notable nominees include Houston five-star cornerback Anthony Cook, Pennsylvania five-star defensive end Micah Parsons, Florida four-star defensive end Andrew Chatfield and IMG Academy five-star defensive end Nolan Smith II. Offensively, Fairfield five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman and Indianapolis four-star wide receiver David Bell were listed.

Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell and cornerback Shaun Wade were the offensive and defensive players of the year last season, marking the first time since USC in 2012 that one school swept the awards.

With that said, there's a good chance the Buckeyes could do so for the second-consecutive year if Carman eventually chooses Ohio State over Clemson and USC in December.

Brenton Cox to visit Bama? Is that something Ohio State needs to worry about?
An already contentious recruiting cycle has the potential to even more contentious if you want it to be.

Ohio State verbal Brenton Cox, a 5-star defensive end from Stockbridge. Ga., is expected to visit Alabama this weekend. This trip has been in the works for some time, as the Crimson Tide have been trying for months to get Cox on campus. The trip is an unofficial visit, but the Tide are still trying to arrange an official visit from Cox as well.

Ohio State, for its part, is not worried – which could prevent panic from Buckeyes fans.

“He told [Ohio State] about the visit,” a source told Land of 10. “He’s going to watch a friend from Arkansas play. [The Buckeyes] aren’t worried.”

Of course, it’s Bama, and that’s always a concern. But for now, avoid concerning yourself too much about that.

    TROUBLE BREWING?

Alabama's game against Arkansas this weekend has been circled on Ohio State's calendar for several weeks now, as a likely visit from four-star quarterback commit Emory Jones loomed. He's not going to be the only pledge on the sidelines Saturday, though, as he'll be joined by five-star defensive end commit Brenton Cox.

“Yeah, I'm going,” Cox told BamaOnLine. “I'm just looking forward to seeing a good game.”

So, is this reason for Ohio State fans to worry? In short, I wouldn't.

Cox told Eleven Warriors this summer Alabama and Georgia were two of the programs working hardest to flip his pledge, but he wasn't entertaining their overtures. He's always planned to take a few official visits, and he's more so interested in seeing the atmosphere than anything.

“I'm still committed,” Cox continued. “I'm just going.”

That's good new for the Buckeyes, of course, as he'll surely be in Jones' ear all weekend — that is, if he does visit. As far as we're aware (at least before I stepped on my flight to Nebraska at 2:30 p.m.), that was still the plan. We'll see if that happens, though.

Brenton Cox not surprised by Ohio State line success
Another Ohio State commit, Brenton Cox, was expected to make it to Columbus this past weekend but was ue to secure transportation.

“I don’t even know yet when I’ll get my official visit in,” Cox, who picked the Buckeyes over Georgia, told Land of 10. “It’s hard trying to make time with my practices and school schedule.

    “Probably December.”

Everything is going as expected for Cox, who is a nominee for Athlete of the Year in his region of the state (vote here) and, despite a visit to Bama two weeks ago, there’s no real concern at this point about his recruitment. He’s got his plans in place for being at Ohio State and he knows what role he’ll fill in the Buckeyes defensive line room.

“I’ll be playing Sam Hubbard’s role,” Cox said. “Basically, just like a 3-4 outside linebacker, but in a 4-3. That’s exactly what I do now.”

Cox won’t be expected to contribute at Hubbard’s level when he arrives in Columbus, but he does expect to continue the success enjoyed by Larry Johnson’s “Rushmen.” He’s not surprised by their dominance of Penn State and Saquon Barkley, the country’s best running back.

“I see what they do in practice,” Cox said. “I feel like if you work hard in practice, you’re going to have good games like that. The defensive line can just take over the game.”

    Brenton Cox visiting Bama

Three weeks ago, Brenton Cox – the Buckeyes top-rated commitment – made an unofficial visit to Alabama. The trip was labeled as a “trip to see his friend play” and there was no concern coming out of Columbus.

This weekend, Cox, a 5-star defensive end from Stockbridge (Ga.) is expected to be heading back to Bama, as an official visitor, checking out the Tide as they prepare to take on LSU in a Top 20 SEC showdown.

For the record, if he makes that visit, then maybe, OK, there will probably a little worry from Ohio State, but it’s not gotten to Emory Jones-levels yet, or even close, so don’t panic. This little tidbit is just to make sure you know he’s expected there.
